“You aren’t napping,” I said as I squeezed his hand and my heart clenched at the grin. I really loved this man and now I knew how he’d felt when I disappeared. I couldn’t breathe without him.

He looked up at Ranger. “So, what’s the verdict?”

“We need to move you but we can’t start you bleeding again,” Ranger explained. “You are low on quarts of that, my friend.”

“I got a truck with a flatbed coming over,” Talon chimed in.

Justice scoffed at this. “We don’t need all of that. I can get out of here on my own two feet, thank you.”

“Oh, no,” I said. “You won’t.”

“Wow, we aren’t even married yet and you're bossin` me already,” Justice joked. “I kinda like it though.”

I shook my head. “Maybe you are more like Liberty than we thought.”

“Oh, no. Just because I’m down doesn’t mean you have to kick me,” Justice replied.

“Well look at that, he got shot and it gave him a personality.” Liberty laughed. “Ok, so I’ll grab his upper part and you get his legs,” he said as he looked up at Ranger.

Justice grumbled as he tried to sit up.

I pressed on his chest with my free hand. “Oh, no, you don’t. If you don’t let them do this, you will miss me holding your ass up.”

“Holding my…” Justice chuckled and he winced. “Ok, I’ll cooperate.”

“What a man won’t do to get ass grabbed,” Liberty teased.

We all laughed.

We could hear the truck now as it pulled up as close as it could get. Dagger hopped out and shook his head. “Hey, I had to come and see this ass grabbing thing myself.” He smiled at us then he went around to the tailgate to let it down.

The men got into position at Justice’s head and at his legs. I joined them right at his butt area, just like I’d promised. I didn’t know how much help I would be but at least, it got him to go along with this.

“Ok,” Ranger said. “One, two, three.”

They lifted and I actually did shove my body close and supported his lower back.

“Hey, no fair, that isn’t my ass!” Justice exclaimed.

“That’s a woman for ya,” Liberty quipped. “Wickedly deceiving, brother.”

We all moved very carefully and slowly then Dagger jumped up into the truck to ease him in.

“Lay really still,” Ranger said as he slid him over to Dagger’s hands then he jumped up to help get him the rest of the way.

I waited until they laid him down on an actual stretcher along the truck bed. As soon as they moved out of the way, I jumped up and slid over next to Justice. Taking his hand, I soothed, “See? That wasn’t so bad.”

He pouted. “But you cheated.”

I smiled as I shook my head. “I’ll make up for it later.”

Dagger jumped down and gazed up at us. “Ok, this will take a while. I won’t be going over five miles an hour.”

Belle hurried over to the cab to the passenger side as she said, “Five miles an hour sounds great to me!”

“Good, that way he won’t be upset,” Ranger replied, then he glanced at Liberty. “Come on up, we have to hold him, so he won’t be moving.”

“Man.” Liberty grunted as he now jumped in. “I’ve heard of brotherly love but this shit is fucking ridiculous.”
