“Get anywhere?” Liberty cocked his head at me. “Have you even tried?”

“Not Really.”

“Not really…” Liberty was shaking his head. “So, let me get this straight—”

“You won’t get it straight!” I cut him off. “She is in serious trouble, damnit!”

Halting, he stared at me. “What kind of trouble?”

“I don’t know. It’s bad though, real bad.” I raised my hand up at him to add, “And no, she won’t tell me anything.”

Liberty looked troubled now as his amazement left. “Oh,” was all he said.

“So, you are so full of advice, tell me what I should do.” I stared at him.

“Man, if you don’t know what the trouble is…” Then he stared at me. “But how could that be? I mean no one can touch her here.”

I slowly shook my head. I couldn’t tell him anything else. I’d already violated her confidence by telling him she was in trouble. Well, she wasn’t in trouble yet, but when she made it into town… I patted Liberty on the shoulder. “I plan on handling this.”

Liberty gave me a hard stare. “Man, you are my brother. I can’t just let—”

“You can. I cannot involve anyone else. I already told you more than I should have.”

He stepped back and crossed his arms over his chest. “Sorry, but her feelings don’t mean shit to me, but your life does.”

I let out a sigh. “You have to stay out of it.”

He kept shaking his head at me.

“I mean it, Liberty.” I went around him and headed out front. Man, I hoped he listened to me. But he never listened to me before. Like when he was ten and I told him a ten speed couldn’t hit 40 miles an hour down Padre hill. Yep, he got it to 37 and crashed. Broke his arm. Dad was so pissed at the both of us. Me even more so, as I was 2 years older than he was. I could go on and on about the times when Liberty wouldn’t listen. Like at 20 when he dated a pair of twins, only they didn’t know he was dating the both of them. I chuckled to myself as I remembered how those two chicks had tied him down and shaved his head along with his eyebrows when they caught on to his ‘double dating.’ He paid for thatmistake,big-time. He refused to leave the house all summer after that.

Heading out down the front steps of the Connor House, I casually strolled around, though there was nothing casual about what I intended to look at. The vehicle area. I knew it had a gate but I looked it over to see how a person could access the vehicles. I imagine Scarlet would be doing this very thing soon. I looked around to see where she could possibly hide.

“What ya doin’?”

I shook my head and released a breath. “Just bored,” I told Liberty, who had obviously followed me out here.

“Oh, really now?” he said. “Since when do you wander around looking at cars and bikes when you’re bored, Justice?”

I turned around to face him. “Stay out of it, Liberty. I already warned you.”

"Warned me?” he queried in a smart ass way. “Since when did your warnings ever work on me?”

I now had to laugh. “Never. You have had a broken arm, a concussion, a wrecked motorcycle and two sports cars totalled. Along with a shaved head and no eyebrows, but you still won’t listen to me.”

Shrugging, he laughed, “Yeah, the eyebrows were a real hardship. But those twins? Hot babes.”

“Yeah, hot babes with a pair of electric shears.” I grinned at him.

“Well, never mind the stroll down memory lane.” He cocked an eyebrow at me. “How about you answer my question?”

My grin faded. “What question?”

“Damn, you aren’t really gonna try that counter question with a question shit on me, are you?”

“Just move along, Liberty, nothin’ to see here,” I quipped.

He shook his head. “Yet. You mean nothing to seeyet.”
