Nodding her head, she said, “I want to get this over with. I don’t know much but whatever it is, I have nothing to hide.”
Talon spoke over his comm, “Logan, you listening?’
“Of course, boss.”
“Record what is said, in case we need to go over this later.”
Belle rolled her eyes. “Wow, all you need is handcuffs and some Miranda Rights and I would be all set as a defendant.”
“Whoa,” Justice finally spoke up as he stared at her. “Do you watch a lot of cop shows or what?”
Shrugging, Belle replied, “I am a paralegal secretary.”
Justice stared at her then looked over at me.
I gave him a nod.
“You said she worked as a secretary?” he asked me as he looked surprised.
“Yes, I did. But she works at a law firm.”
He looked thrilled now. “Well, that is great news!”
“Why?” Belle stared at him in total confusion.
“I’m a lawyer.” He grinned. “It means we have something in common.”
Belle shook her head as she still looked confused and looked over at me. “Is he always like this?”
I beamed at her. “Yep. He is genuine.” I reached over and took his hand. If she only knew all that I loved about Justice. He did not play games, he was an open book about nearly everything. Maybe someday soon, I could sit down with her and tell her about all the things he was that my ex’s weren’t.
Belle slowly shook her head and looked over at Liberty. “So, why isn’t he…like his brother?”
Liberty sat up straighter in his chair. “That sounded like an insult.”
I bit at my lips to keep from smiling and I felt laughter bubbling up, trying to burst through. Liberty had been funny before but around my sister, he just became even funnier.
Talon seemed to ignore our banter as he sat down and clasped his hands together. He looked at my sister and stated gently, “You are a witness, not a suspect, Belle. We know you were duped…” At her glare, he cleared his throat and went on, “...Lied to about us.”
She sighed and leaned back. “Like I told Scarlet, he called me the first time.”
“Where?” Talon asked.
“Where?” she repeated.
“Where were you when he called?”
“At work.”
“And he called you on the office line?”
“Yes.” She nodded.
“So, he tracked you at your job.”
Shrugging, she said, “I guess?”
“Then what?” Talon asked.
