“I was free, Scar. Free…”

When he said this, light suddenly blinded me from the exit of the odd tunnel we were in.

“Just like now,” he added in glee. “I finally have you back. That was my only price to pay for freedom.”

I stayed mute. I simply couldn’t understand what he was saying. Why was he here? How did he know about the exchange thing?

Something metal landed on my lap. With a gasp, I jumped.

“Handcuffs,” Wade said. “Put them on.”

Staring down, I saw the cuffs. I knew once I put them on, I would be done for. Maybe I already was all but dead but I felt rebellion surging up in me through the fear and confusion as I replied, “No.”

Cocking the gun, he raised it to my head and growled. “Do it.”

I slowly shook my head. “You won’t kill me.”

“Oh, yeah?” He smirked at my challenge.

“Yeah, Wade. Why would you go to all this trouble just to kill me? No, you want to torture me, beat me up. So no. Not until I see Belle.”

“Well fuck, you got some guts now, Scar. Too funny,” he replied casually, his tone changing yet again as he drove along some back road out of town. “You were just a girl when I knew you before. Now, you’ve grown up, eh?” He glanced over at me with a leer on his face. “Ilikeit.”

I knew what he meant as I forced the bile back down my throat. He would rape me and make me bend to his will all over again. I kept fear away as I said, “Show me Belle and free her. Then I am all yours.”

He paused as he lowered the gun to his lap. “For real? You would do that?”

I nodded. “I want to see her go free first.” I meant this as I would find some way to kill him or myself after I knew she was safe. At this point, my choices were slim. I remembered whatLogan had said. They think they’re in charge but you will have to take charge too.

“We are coming up to the hideout,” he said. “So, I will show her to you.”

“You will set her free,” I stated.

Growling, he reached over and backhanded me across the face. “You don’t dictate to me, Scar!” He then had to grab the wheel with both hands as the car almost swerved off the road.

I could taste blood in my mouth as my lip stung from being split open. I just sat there and realized I did not care. Let him split it again, punch me repeatedly, I would not back down. “I see Belle freed first. Go ahead and keep hitting me. I don’t care.”

Wade stared at me then had to look at the road again. “Little Scarlet got some courage eh?” He snickered.

I said nothing. Courage?...No, pure desperation to see my sister safe and away from this crazy, brutal bastard, yes.

He turned onto a dirt road and kept driving.

I gazed at the countryside and realized where we were. The old quarry road.

“Yeah, it’s badass, Scarlet, wait till you see it.” He nodded at the area ahead.

“What are you talking about?” I asked as I stared at the road that was now dipping down into the old Pensturn Quarry.

“The hideout. Man, it is like a mall underground.”

“Your hideout?”

“Nah, I’ll be outta here soon.” He glanced over at me and grinned again. “You and me are gonna be married afterward.”

I blinked at him. If I had thought this man was insane before he went to prison, I had been wrong. He was now completely around the bend. “Married?” I wanted to scoff. Hell, I wanted to laugh in his face, but I didn’t want him to knockme out before I got to see Belle. He would have to marry a dead body. In fact, the longer this went on the more I knew that this might be my only way out. Suicide, but I sure as hell intended to take him with me while I was at it.

“Sure, we are gonna pick up right where we left off.” He drove through the quarry.
