“You’d better come back alive, brother,” Redemption said from the bumper of the car.

“We intend to Red,” I replied.

“You’d better, or Dad will hand all our asses to us. Ok, watch your feet, I’m shutting it,” Redemption announced as the trunk door came down.

Darkness was instant as I listened for sound, then I heard the engine start.

The car was moving now in reverse and then it drove forward. I could tell when it hit the driveway gravel, then turnedout onto Connor Road. It sped up then after a few minutes, I knew we were going over Connor Bridge as I could feel the fast moving ridges of the bridge’s surface.

After that, I knew when we got to the county road. Damn, it had only been ten minutes and I felt like I would suffocate. No one who suffered from claustrophobia could do this. I never had it but I thought I might be developing a fear of small spaces now.

Finally, I could feel a change of surfaces as Scarlet got onto the highway to town. It was mere minutes before she turned and went down a rather bumpy road. I already knew the town of Ramton had shitty pothole filled streets but this ride proved it too well.

After another five minutes, she slowed down and made a turn.

“Bank here,” a voice came over the comm. “Eyes on her.”

“Ok, Dag,” Talon’s voice replied. “We are three blocks back. Watch the lot.”

“Will do,” Dagger replied.

The car door opened and shut as we heard Scarlet get out. I released another frustrated breath. I hated it that she had to be out there alone. My body was tense and had been since I’d climbed into this damned trunk.

Liberty grunted as he moved beside me.

I knew he was uncomfortable because I was. I had to give him kudos though, he had kept his mouth shut.

“She’s going in,” Dagger reported. “But I see a guy parked on the far side.”

“What’s he doing?” Talon responded.

“Nothing, but he couldn’t take his eyes off of her.”

“Watch him close,” Talon said.

“Yep,” Dagger answered over the comm.

I hoped it was just some guy waiting for his wife to come out of the bank or something. After all, Scarlet was easy on the eyes, so he could just be staring at her. It seemed like an eternity went by but I realized it was only about five minutes when the car door opened and closed again. The engine started up and Scarlet pulled out of the bank parking area.

“Ok, dude’s following her in his car,” Dagger reported. “Not sure which car it’s yet.”

“You sure he’s following?” Talon asked him.

“I wasn’t till he turned the same way as she did. I think he’s a tail.”

“Ok, follow him,” Talon advised. “But don’t let him see you.”

“Got that,” Dagger said.

Great, she had a tail now. It could be one of the drug dealer’s thugs, or one of Deacon’s men.

A few more minutes went by. Scarlet made another turn and the car drove slower, finally stopping. She shut the car door after she got out and moved away.

“Mom’s house here,” a voice came over.

“Ok, Keys,” Talon came on. “Watch for anyone approaching and she has a tail.”

“I heard,” Keys said.
