She gave me a nod. “But see, that was my problem.”
I paused to stare at her. “What does that mean?”
“I had Mr. Right at the wrong time, then I had Mr. Wrong at the right time.”
I raised my brows at this. “Well, baby...” I grinned at her. “Consider me to be Mr.Rightat therighttime.”
Staring back at me, Scarlet laughed. “Maybe you are.”
I laughed with her. “Let’s get ready for dinner. Then we will sit out and look at the stars for a bit. I’ve been missing that for the last couple of days.”
“I’m sorry, Justice. I just thought or I knew I wouldn’t be able to hide my stress from you. So, I couldn’t hang out with you.”
“Well, there will be no hiding from me now.” I took her hand and tugged her up from the chair. “You aren't alone in this anymore.”
We headed to the dining room.
When we arrived, the room was loud with chatter as laughter rippled out from here and there. I hadn’t seen the Walkers acting this way at a meal for a while now. Due to the Deacon threat. It had taken away the usual meal banter and jokes.
I pulled out a chair for Scarlet then she sat as I pushed it in a bit. I sat next to her and caught part of what was being said near our seating area.
“No way,” Liberty was talking across the table with Redemption.
“Yes, way. It really happened.” Sitting next to Redemption was a happy looking Cinnamon. She waved at Scarlet, her eyes held concern though.
I could tell she was wondering like I had about Scarlet recently.
“I don’t believe it,” Liberty replied.
“Brother, I was there or I never would have believed it,” Redemption said.
“What are you two going on about?” I asked Liberty.
“The bout between Prophet and Talon.” He grinned at me.
“Yes, Jewel was furious about that,” Scarlet piped up.
I turned to look at her. “Why?”
“Why?” she repeated back to me. “Come on, the man was passed out cold when she got there. And why? Talon was beating the shit out of him.”
“That’s not what happened,” Redemption told her.
“Yeah, according to my brother here,” Liberty replied. “Prophet was about to choke Talon out.”
“And what is so unbelievable about that?” Scarlet asked him as she raised her tea glass.
Liberty scoffed. “Anyone in the fighting circuit has heard of Talon. No one could beat the man. Don’t get me wrong, Prophet is one of the toughest men I’ve ever known, but you take on the Claw and you are going down.”
Redemption chuckled. “You would think so right?”
“I know so.” Liberty shook his head. “Even the MMA tried to recruit him at one time. And if they had, he could hold the champion rank for as long as he damn well wanted to.”
“Well, sometimes you shouldn’t count out the unknown.” Redemption grinned at him. “And Prophet was that unknown factor.” He turned to look at the man they were talking about ashe sat there listening to us. “You were the first guy in history to really rattle Talon’s cage so to speak.
Prophet shook his head. “Nah man, I don’t see it like that. I’m no ring fighter. I just needed a good brawl at the time.”
“That’s your opinion, you being the humble cowboy and all,” Redemption said as he chuckled.
