Rushing along with as much speed as he could, we both saw that the exit door stood wide open. In fact, it looked busted off the hinges. Running through it and out, Zed kept going as he did not slow down.

I lost all feeling in my body as my eyelids drooped. So tired.I couldn't fight it anymore, but I realized we were suddenly pushed forward by a massive force. I even thought we were flying through the air as my world dimmed, going to black and I knew nothing.

Chapter Nineteen:World Upended

Prophet

The ride along the road and then through town was one seemingly long blur for me, but it took less than the twenty minutes it should have. It’d been maybe ten on the Ninja bike. My thoughts were all over the place, but I zeroed in on one fact. The damn trash bin! The one I stopped at when I saw the tire skid marks. It made no sense at first, then I remembered Talon and Liv talking about O’s underground lairs. Somehow, they had taken Jewel through some sort of hatch then had her underground. Or so I hoped. It all sounded like some movie. Who had underground compounds like that? It was so far fetched. Only now, I hoped it was true and not fiction.

Racing along the streets toward downtown, I felt afraid I would be too late. What had Deacon done to Jewel while she had been in his clutches? It made me feel sick to my stomach. Scarlet had said God was watching over her. Well, I should have been doing that. I pushed the should haves away. I had said a little prayer, hoping he would be watching over her until I could get to her and I meant it. I now added another one:Please let her be unhurt, please allow my dad to still be alive.

Finally, I was on the road to the Cotton Candy club. When I got close, I noticed other motorcycles closing in next to me and behind me. Talon and his men. Turning into the second lot, they followed me. Slowing down, I spotted that trash bin. I came to a halt, kicked the bike stand and hopped off.

“STOP!”

I turned to see Talon getting off his bike and I let out an aggravated breath. Stop? It had already been too fucking long.

“There could be traps on it,” he warned as he walked over. “We’ve found some before.” He waved to another man.

This man was very large. I remembered meeting him before, Tank and he looked like one too.

He and a second man came over and passed us. Tank held a device in his hand as did the other man. Passing it over one side of the bin, Tank squat-walked all along the metal wall of it. The other man walked around behind it to do the same.

Redemption stepped up beside me and said breathlessly, “Man, you and that fucking Ninja, I couldn’t even see you!” He paused to stare at the bin and the men kneeling, “What are they doing?”

“Traps or something they said,” I replied in a flat tone.

“You mean bombs?” Redemption asked.

I shrugged. “Maybe? Talon didn’t say.”

Suddenly, a loud beeping went off on one of the gauges, then they both went off. Tank and the other man stood, then they backed up.

“Fuck,” Talon swore under his breath and looked over at me.

“What?” I asked in disgust.

“The bin is wired,” he replied.

Tank walked over and said, “Double wired maybe. If anyone moves that bin, they will get blown to hell.”

I stared at him then looked over at Talon. I sure as hell didn’t fly over here to stand around and wait. “Fuck! What now?” I tried so very hard to be patient, but I wanted to kill someone.

Talon shook his head as two other men came up. “This is Keys and I think you know Ranger,” he introduced them. “They know how to deactivate the traps.”

“How long?” I demanded to know as that was all I cared about.

“Takes a few minutes to ten, depending on the device,” Keys replied.

I pushed my hair back and growled under my breath. “Do any of you think there’s another way down there?”

“We already checked around for hours this morning,” Keys answered this. “We never checked the bin, I admit. This Deacon is a smart motherfucker.”

I’d heard this before from Liv and Logan. I couldn’t get myself to care about how fucking smart he was. I wanted him dead. Then he wouldn't be anything to anyone anymore.

“Talon!” Hawk’s voice came over the comm.

“Yeah?” he replied.
