“The lot I was in, past the Cotton Candy club.” My breathing and my adrenaline were both spiking.
“Yeah?” he replied. “The one with the skid marks. We went over that entire—”
“Under it!” I exclaimed. “The dude in the bed said Maxim took her under the trash bin.” I was out the front door now as I bumped into guards and pushed them aside.
“Fucking hell,” Talon came over on the comm. “I’ll get my men back over—”
I desperately looked around for a bike. “No, man. Have them close by, but don’t send them in!”
“Oookkkay, but—?”
“I’m heading there,” I cut him off again. “Tell one of these Rebels to give me a damn bike!”
Someone came up behind me and slapped me on the back.
Turning, I growled.
Redemption was breathing heavily as he raised his hand at me and said,” Your ride. It’s over there.”
Looking up, I saw a gated fence where he had pointed and I didn’t hesitate as I ran over there. “I lifted the clasp on the gate and stepped through while looking around at a literal fleet of motorcycles all in rows. Then I spotted another Ninja. I headed over to it. “Red!” I called out to Redemption. “Get me the keys to this one. I need something fast.”
Redemption skidded to a sliding halt as he had been trying to catch up to me. Turning his head, he yelled, “Who has the keys to these fucking bikes?”
I didn’t wait as I grabbed the handlebars and wheeled it out, then I jogged it through the open gate.
Redemption moved around me and rushed into the bike area.
One of the Rebel Saints came over to me. “That’s my bike.”
I glared at him as I gave no fucks about who owned it. “I’m borrowing it, give me the key!”
Staring at my angry face, he dug the key out of his pocket, handing it over, then he stepped aside.
I mounted the Ninja and started it. I hoped it was gassed up, so I took a second to glance down at the tank meter. Yeah, it would get me there. I took off and had to slow to get to the driveway, then I sped up. “God, if you can hear me,” I muttered low. “Stay on my side just a little bit longer.”
Chapter Eighteen:The Magic Trick
Jewel
I came to again as I tried to figure out where I was. My body seemed to have gone numb. I felt weightless and wondered if…I died and this was—the floating sensation came to a stop and I opened my eyes. What I saw was something I did not expect. A man’s beard? My eyes were still seeing blurs, but my sight slowly came back. Itwasa man’s chin, looking up further, I saw his face.
Prophet’s dad! I remembered now, I’d found him and gave him keys? I still had muddled thoughts and wondered what had been real or a dream.
He seemed to be looking back and forth from side to side as he held me in his arms.
Now my hearing seemed to kick in as I heard yelling and shouting. It took all my will to raise my head to see what was happening. I saw a hallway but not the one we had been in before, at least I didn’t think so.Where were we?
I heard those same shouts getting closer and we moved again as the man holding me stormed ahead. I could see us turn or feel it, then we were moving along at a fast pace again. Prophet’s father was a big man just like him and even injured, he carried me like I was a small package or something.
Suddenly, he ducked us in through a doorway. Breathing hard, he quietly shut the door with his booted foot.
Coming truly awake now, I gazed up at him.
“Shhh,” he shushed me.
We could hear running footsteps, but they never stopped at the door. They stomped away and it got quiet again.
Waiting for a minute, he then peered down at me.
