We finally arrived under the bridge at the Connor House. How odd to be here, the place where we rescued Glory and Scarlet. The very place Deacon had used as a compound.

Looking up, I saw Rebel Saints standing guard. Bones had pointed out our men all along Connor Road as he drove. Every half mile or so and I’d bet they were behind the house too.

Seeing the old Bed & Breakfast, a fact now became more than real to me. The Walkers had been run out of their home. The threat Deacon presented had them living under literal guard. Looking around before we stopped, I saw the cameras too. I already knew these were on an all new system. Logan had probably set up a whole new security system. Of course, he had.

Looking over at the man passed out on the seat next to me yet again, I vowed to get him to talk. Jewel had been in Deacon’s clutches for more than 2 hours. I slowly shook my head and I couldn't even imagine her fear. And I did not want to imagine my dad…dead. That frustration built in me all over again. More than frustration really, I was at that same point again as fury boiled inside of me.

The vehicle finally stopped and I opened the door to get out.

Running toward the SUV was Cinnamon as Redemption got out and shut his door.

Cinnamon ran to me instead of to him and hugged me. I raised my arms in surprise as I glanced over at Red.

He furrowed his brows.

“Prophet!” She cried. “Tell me it isn’t true!”

I lowered my arms. Jewel was her best friend so I should have expected this reaction. “It is,” I whispered as she wept on my shoulder. “I’m so sorry. He has her.”

“No… h-he will…” She cried even louder.

Redemption came over and placed his hand on her shoulder. “Baby, don’t cry.” He looked pained.

I couldn’t blame him. Strong men didn’t cry, my dad always said, but when their women cried, it caused a pain that hurt deep. I now knew what he meant.

Taking her into his arms, Redemption held her.

I’d already felt like crap warmed over and now I just felt sick to my stomach. This shouldn’t be happening. I should have been bringing Jewel here along with my father.

I turned and watched as Bones and Wildcat carried the man out of the backseat. I patted Redemption on the shoulder and followed them. This fucker would remain in my sight as I intended to stick to him like glue until I got what I wanted. Nothing else mattered.

We came up the steps as Scarlet stepped out and looked at me. Justice came out as well. They then moved aside to allow the men carrying the guy to pass. After they did, she turned to look at me as did my cousin, Justice.

I gave them a nod and went to go around them.

“Prophet,” Scarlet said softly.

I paused. I really didn’t know this woman all that well, but she too was a friend of Jewel’s. I couldn’t handle anymore grief, as I was barely holding it together.

“We all heard what you went through, Prophet,” Justice said. “Over the comm devices.”

I stood still but my gaze remained on the men heading through the main lobby. If that was true, then they heard that I lost her.

“You tried, and you were willing to give your life to save her.” Scarlet touched my arm.

“It wasn’t enough,” I replied.

“Man, youwillget her back,” Justice stated. “And your dad,” he added. “I never met anyone as tough as him.”

“You must know what Jewel believes in,” Scarlet went on with tears in her eyes. “She was always talking about God’s grace and stuff like that. You need to believe that she will be safe. God is watching over her.”

My body had gone ridged with rage at myself this time. “Good thing he is, because I dropped that ball.” I stepped through the door and hurried my steps to catch up with my quarry, the only hope or faith I had at the moment was getting him to tell me where Jewel was and I hoped like hell, my dad was there with her.

Wildcat and Bones took him into one of the rooms and laid him on a bed. I stepped over to the far wall as another man came in with a storage tub.

“Put down here,” Wildcat said as he pulled up a chair.

The man set it down on the chair and stepped back. “Can I help?”
