Taking my hand, he shook his head as he shut the door and we headed to the basement.
Chapter Nine:Win At All Costs
Prophet
Back down to the dreaded basement. Jewel and I walked in as they were all talking…
“That won’t work,” Liv said.
“We don’t have many choices here, sis,” Talon replied.
Redemption spotted me and said, “Well, here’s the man of the hour.”
Liv, Hawk, Logan, and Talon looked over at us.
Jewel glared at Redemption as she didn’t seem to appreciate his comment at all.
He noted her expression as he cleared his throat and shook his head.
Stepping over to the group, Jewel placed her hands onto her hips and said, “Tell me you are not allowing him to just be handed over to that monster.” She gazed at all of them.
“We don’t want to,” Talon replied. “It would be like exchanging one life for another.”
“You bet it would,” Jewel said. “He will kill Prophet for sure.”
“He could have planned the same for you,” Hawk suggested.
“Are you stupid?” She now glared at him. “He would have maybe raped me and...” She shivered. “But this is not the same scenario.”
“Damn, I hope not,” Prophet finally spoke up.
Jewel snapped her gaze over to me. “Prophet, at anytime now, you will have to give your life over to a madman and you are making jokes?”
I took her hand. “I’m sorry. It’s a bad habit.”
Redemption nodded. “It’s his coping mechanism.”
She again tossed a glare his way.
Poor Redemption, he was making his own mess as was I. He knew me well, and he was right. Often, I joked my way through some rough shit. This though would be the roughest to date.
Releasing an exasperated huff, Jewel stared around at the planning committee so to speak. “So do we have a new plan?”
Liv and Talon glanced at each other then at her.
“Yes,” Talon replied.
“And no,” Liv added. “It’s not new,” she admitted.
I stared at them as did Jewel.
“What does that mean?” she asked.
“We have you and him fight and you run off, same as before,” Talon stated.
I blinked hard at this. “Oh, no!”
Jewel turned to me. “They’re right. We can find him and your dad.”
