I tried to remember what Ma had told me, to not allow this to drive me crazy. But it all went out the window, I couldn’t remember anything she had said. I also knew I was about to lose it. I sure as hell did not want Jewel to see that. I turned and stalked up the stairs.
“Prophet!” Jewel called to me.
I had to get out of the room. I needed to get myself together. I slammed the door behind me and walked down the hall then out the front door. I had no idea where I was headed or what I planned to do. I only hope no one got into my face. I just kept going. I had no idea what to do with all this fury.
“Hey!”
I heard Talon call, but I felt like if I talked to him now, I would be me putting my fist down his throat.
“Come on, man.” Talon was suddenly walking beside me, despite the furious pace I was going at.
“Get the fuck away from me,man.” I growled back.
“Nah, I know what you need,” he said.
I suddenly stopped and turned my head to look at him. “I don’t need any fucking thing from you.”
“You do or you are gonna do something stupid.”
Damn, this man had already been on my last nerve and I did not have any fucks left to give. “I don’t want to talk, asshole.”
“I don’t either.” He raised a brow at me. “Follow me.” He then turned and headed toward the barn at the far side of the ranch.
I paused and wondered if I could ride my bike out on the back paths at night. Riding usually helped to clear my head. Then again, I would more than likely land on my fucking head. Clenching my fists at my sides, I shook my head and followed him. I hoped he knew that if he got into my face again, I wouldn’t do any talking. In fact, I was sick of talking.
When I entered the barn, I halted in my tracks. At the very middle of the large barn a ring stood. And in it...Talon stood. I slowly walked over.
He was shirtless while moving from side to side on the balls of his feet as he raised his gloves. “Come in here and kick my ass.”
I stared at him. “You’re fucking crazy.”
“No, you are.” Talon raised his chin at me. “Or close to it. You think I don’t know what that’s like?”
I slowly shook my head.
“What?” he asked. “You afraid I might kick your ass?”
“To be honest,” another man wearing a Rebels Saint’s patch from ringside said. “Talon has fought like in underground clubs, so don’t let him con you.”
“How did you know about the clubs, Ranger?” Talon asked him as he narrowed his eyes at him.
“Are you kidding?” Ranger exclaimed. “We know Hawk and he’s told us about your little habit.”
“Habit?” I asked.
“Yeah man, it’s like crack to him. No kidding,” someone said from behind me.
I turned to see Hawk.
He strolled forward. “He sneaks into clubs and fights just for the love of it. We all learned the art of fighting starting at six, man. Our father had a dojo where we trained. All of us, even Liv. Him though...” He glanced up at his older brother Talon. “He made a freaking life out of it. A soldier. Then he loves the ring. I’m just warning you.”
Taking my shirt off, I handed it to Hawk. “I’m no golden gloves, but I can hold my own.” I didn’t say anything about wrestling bulls to brand or taking down 2,000 pound steers by their horns. I had skills but I never fought for fun or kicks.
“I get it, Prophet. I was there just now and I know....” Hawk shook his head. “But it’s not just his gloves. He’s also a kick boxer as well as a martial arts expert.”
“Come on brother,” Talon scoffed. “You act like I’m some kind of beast luring the poor man into his death.”
Hawk raised his gaze to look at his brother and smirked. “You got the beast part right.”
