I used my middle name Jewel as my stripper name and I always wore wigs, sometimes an eye mask, or a disguise that covered my face. Other times, I wore tons of makeup. I worried that if anyone recognized me as a stripper when I finally got to teach, it would be over just like that.

Now, there would be no more stripping. I almost had enough for college and I hadn’t wanted to go back to the Cotton Candy anyway. Mostly, because of Deacon, but Cinnamon had asked Mickey at the Top Hat if he needed a bartender or cocktail waitress. He said he would hire me. Then Cinnamon disappeared. That had really scared me too. I asked Mickey about it and he only said that he couldn’t talk about it, but that she was safe. Then the next thing I know, some large gorilla of a man was in my bedroom to haul me away.

Yet, now I think that may have been the best thing that ever happened to me. Shaking my head, I snorted. I wouldn’t have met Prophet. But I may not be able to stay with him if this plan went wrong. I let out a sigh.

“You okay?”

I looked up to see Cinnamon standing over me. “No, I’m not.”

Moving forward, she sat next to me on the steps. “Redemption told me about Prophet's dad. I am so sorry, Jewel.”

“So am I,” I told her with a sigh in my voice. “I feel so bad for Prophet. I mean why did Deacon do this?” I then froze as something occurred to me. With a gasp, I turned to her. “Oh, my God!”

“What?” She stared at me as she looked concerned.

“He knows.” I shivered.

“Knows?”

“Yes, Deacon knows I…well that I’m with Prophet.”

Her eyes rounded. “Are you?”

“Him and I are dating, or we were going to.” Tears filled my eyes. “That would explain why he took Prophet's dad!” I stood up.

“Where are you going?” she asked as she peered up at me.

“To the basement.” I rushed up the steps.

“But Jewel, they are having a meeting!” she called to me.

“I know and I suddenly realized that I should be there.” I rushed through the door then down the right side hall. Pausing I looked around. I really didn’t know where the basement door was.

“What ya lookin’ for?”

I spun around to see Ma in the hall. “Where’s the basement at?”

She paused to stare at me. “You need to be at the meeting.” She nodded. “Down at the end.” She pointed.

“Thanks Ma!” I rushed down the hall, grabbed the doorknob and opened the door.

“I don’t like it!”

I could hear Prophet yelling as I rushed down the steps.

“You might not but what else can we do?” Talon asked him.

When I came in, the two men were facing each other, almost chest to chest.

“Prophet,” I called to him.

Turning, he looked at me. “Jewel? What—”

“Deacon saw us,” I announced.

Logan, Talon. Hawk, Redemption and Liv all stared at me.

“How do you know this?” Talon asked me.
