With my heart pounding in my chest and my breathing rapid, I knew they would catch me, but this had to look real. I hadn’t really been prepared though for this horrific reality when a man actually tackled me down. All the air was knocked from my lungs as I landed on the ground. He was large, this I knew as his weight nearly crushed me. For a few seconds, I really could not get my breath back as strong hands rolled me over.

Looking up, I stared at a man with bright blue eyes.

“My, my, malen'kaya devochka-baykersha.”Little biker girl.He chuckled. “Are you in a hurry?” His Russian accent sounded thick.

“Let me go!” I shouted and struggled with him.

“Net… No, you have been caught.” He turned his head as he held my wrists together and called out, “Give me the ties!”

Another man rushed up and did so.

Taking them from the man,Blue Eyesziptied my wrists then hefted me up onto my feet.

“Let go of me!” I kept struggling, I already knew it was useless, but I kept the act up. What woman wouldn’t struggle?

“Behave,” Blue Eyes muttered with a growl. “I do not need a headache.” He tugged me along by my arm up to the SUV and shoved me in. Getting in beside me, he spoke more Russian.

The man at the wheel nodded and pulled the vehicle back out onto the road.

I huffed out air and looked down at my clothes. I was covered in dirt and grass. I looked at anything to keep the fear at bay. Yes, I was scared for sure but I said, “Who are you?” I demeaned in a shaky voice.

“Zamolchi!” Blue eyes growled.

I shook my head and cried out, “You can’t do this!”

“I said shut up,” he repeated it in English.

“Let me out of this car. Please? I won’t tell anyone, I promise.”

More growling. “I will knock you out if you do not shut up!”

“Maxim, we cannot hurt her—”

“Zatknis!” Maxim told the driver to shut up. “You are so stupid, Lazlo. Keep your mouth shut.”

I turned my head again to Maxim and asked, “What does he mean? You cannot hurt me?”

Maxim leaned in close and grasped my chin between his thumb and forefinger. “I will gag you,” he threatened then he removed his hand.

I didn’t say a thing, being tied was bad enough. I refused to think about what this large hulking Russian could do to me if he was allowed to hurt me. Deacon wanted me unmarked...of course he did. I shivered. He would want to be the one to do that. I took a deep breath as I fought that rising fear yet again. I knew these two wouldn’t but if this went wrong, I would get hurt. How the heck, did someone keep calm and not be scared when they had just been kidnapped? To avoid talking or do anything suspicious, I now tried to see where we were headed. I dared not look behind us to see if the group was following, so ahead it had to be.

I recognized the farmlands of course as we traveled along at high speed. We left the rural area after about ten minutes and entered downtown. Now, I was really baffled. This was not a place to hide anything or anyone. It wasn’t a rural hideout, it was honestly a place where there would be witnesses. Where everything you did would be seen. I paused, not that anyone would step in to help. Everyone in this town were too afraid to do anything. Especially when it came to O or her minions. I scoffed to myself and Deacon wasn’t that anymore, was he? He was in charge now. The head villain on a power trip.

“You realize why we grabbed you now, do you not?” Maxim asked as he must have caught my scoff of disgust.

So much for my acting skills.I shrugged. “Someone who intends to misuse me as downtown is now all red light district.”

He studied me. “Da, and you are beautiful, I will give him that.”

“Him?” I asked as I dared to peer up at the man. Apparently, this thug knew why Deacon sent them after me.

He snorted. “You are not convincing, little Jewel. You know who I work for.”

I felt stunned and afraid that he knew this was all set up, I allowed my fear to show on my face. “How do you know my name?”

He chuckled. “A jewel by any other name would never be the same.”

My eyes rounded as my mouth popped open. Deacon had used that exact line on me during our last in person encounter. He said it so cleverly and had given me a wink, which actually had made me mad back then.
