“Can someone please shut…this girl up?” he muttered.
Glory laughed from the other side of the seat. “I don’t know but I sure would like to see someone try.”
I ignored her and him. “I cannot believe you were walking your ass around like that after getting wounded!”
He cough-laughed. “I don’t walk with my ass.”
I was fuming mad and refused to be humored about this. “Don’t you ever do that again, you hear me?”
Redemption groaned in pain as he actually sat up, grasped my face with both hands and said, “Shut up.” Then he kissed me.
I felt so upset and my heart was already pounding a million beats as I kissed him back. I was out of my mind with fear and worry, but his kiss did shut me up. The man could kiss better than any I’d known and I felt a little calmer.
Slumping back, he let go and was out again.
Reaching over, I tried to tug him up just as the SUV stopped. The door opened and I screeched, “Wait you fools! He’s gonna fall—” I shouted as I tried with all my might to hold onto him. We both began to fall forward out the door.
The man caught him and tugged him up as I fell face first into the dirt. My head bounced on the ground as I shouted, “Daaammmnnnniiitt!”
Glory was there instantly, trying to pull me back up.
“What in the hell?” Jarret yelled as he helped her.
I tried to stand and see where Redemption was. He and the man were gone. “Where did he go?” I cried out.
“Can you just calm down, Cinnamon?” Jarret demanded.
“No! I can’t,” I said. “He's injured. Let go of me!”
“Your head is bleeding, little girl,” Jarret stated.
“Yeah badly,” Glory agreed.
“I don’t give a flying horse,” I exclaimed. “Let me go!”
“What in green apples is happening here?” Ma called out.
“Ma! They took him, did you see where?” I asked her.
“Yes, they took him into the house,” she said as she stared at me. “Cinnamon, you are bleeding.”
“Yes, she is,” Jarret said.
Ma looked over at him. “What in tarnation is wrong with you? Carry her up to the house.”
Jarret sighed in disgust. “I would but she might scratch my eyes out.”
Glory laughed. “Daddy, are you scared of her?”
He huffed. “This girl is around the bend, I’m not stupid.” He reached over and gently palmed his daughter’s cheek. “Damn, you are a sight for sore eyes.”
“Well, you gonna be sore ifn’ you don’t get her moving, Jarret Walker!” Ma shouted.
I finally stood erect and then I felt light headed. “I can walk…” I slumped forward as Jarret scooped me up.
“Damn southern women,” Jarret complained. “I forgot what tornadoes they could be.”
Ma tisked. “Just quit your rapping and move!”
