I thought about that as we ate for the next few minutes. I then secretly looked over at Bea and Jarret. They were having a lively but whispered conversation. I studied Jarret's face and halted. His fierce look was gone, he looked so relaxed and…happy? I removed my gaze from the couple. Hell, I think I just figured it out. I wouldn’t say anything about my guess though. This was their issue, not mine. I then looked around for Jewel. I'd been so distracted by being late and Jarret’s questioning me that I again forgot about my friend. I spotted her at the other end. She was sitting next toProphet.
Jewel looked animated as she spoke to him. He laughed then said something to her.
I paused again.Oh, wow.
“You think maybe?” Redemption whispered to me.
I turned my head to look at him.
He smiled and motioned to them. “Seems they have struck up a friendship.”
I glanced over at them again then back to Redemption. “That would be awesome, but…”
He chewed a bite of his dinner and swallowed to ask, “But what?”
“Jewel is not what you might think she is.”
Redemption halted and stared at me. “What does that mean?”
“Well, she’s a stripper, you already know that, but she isn’t your average stripper.”
He shook his head and chuckled. “What? She’s like a super stripper?”
I smacked his hand. “Shhh, somebody might hear you.”
He rolled his eyes then lowered his voice to ask, “Tell me what you meant by that.”
I bit at my lip and then explained it, “She goes to college and she never dates anyone. She told me she only strips to pay for her tuition and living costs. No parties, no bars. Like she is… avery goodgirl. She lost her parents a few years ago. Her father was a preacher and her mom taught Sunday school. So, she made a vow to be um…” I forgot the word for it. “What do they call it?”
Redemption leaned in and whispered, “Abstinent?”
I nodded. “Yes, that’s the word she used.” I took a sip of my sweet tea.
Redemption laughed.
I looked over at him. “What’s so funny?”
He shrugged. “I’m not sure you will get it?”
“Try me.” I set my glass down.
“Prophet and his dad are bikers, but they aren’t your typical bikers.”
I giggled and said, “Like they aresuperbikers?” Tossing his earlier joke back at him.
He laughed again. “You are so damned cute.” His eyes sparkled at me and his voice went deep as he whispered, “Cute enough to eat.”
I sucked in a breath and flushed all over by the sensual tone he just used.
He looked into my eyes as he nodded. “Dessert, I’m thinking.”
I lowered my head as I got moist in my panties. “Stooopp.”
He snickered. “I would if I could. But it’s like a hunger that just cannot be satisfied.”
I couldn’t keep looking at him so I grabbed my drink again and sipped at it.
“The thing is, I think he has made that same vow,” Redemption said.
