“And that is what you need to be focused on. Your sister. Not someone like me.”
He scrunched his brows in confusion. “Why do you say that? Someone like you?”
“I’m just not…” I shook my head and looked away.
He grabbed my jaw gently and turned my head back to face him. “Let me look at your cut,” he stated quietly.
I allowed it as I didn’t want to try to answer any more questions.
He moved some of my hair and stared at the injury. “I’m sorry,” he whispered.
I blinked at this statement. What did the man do that he would be sorry about? “For what?”
“I saw that idiot carrying you and I just shot him. I should have done it differently and maybe you wouldn’t have gotten hurt. I just wanted him dead.”
“Redemption, you saved my life. I don’t want an apology.”
He placed my head onto his shoulder. “Don’t run away again, Cinnamon.”
His voice rumbled through me and my eyes teared up. I wished that things were different, but like Ma said, you can’t change the past. If I could remove it I would. I knew something about my future though. There would come a day when he would be running away from me.
Chapter Twelve:What’s In A Name
Redemption
When we got to the ranch, I helped Cinnamon out and carried her to the house. She kept fussing at me, “I can walk. I’m fine.” I ignored this and kept going up the steps.
When we got to the main room, Bea rushed over to us while looking upset. “Oh, lordy. Is she okay?”
“I am fine, Ma,” Cinnamon said.
“She has a cut on her head,” I told Bea Walker. “She hit the sidewalk hard.”
“Take her into the living room, so I can help her,” Bea said.
I did as she instructed. I took Cinnamon in and set her down on the sofa.
Bea came over with the first aid kit.
Stepping back, I glanced up and saw Talon in the doorway. He gave me a nod. I went over as he stepped back into the large kitchen.
“What happened?” he asked.
“Well, she took off and we followed her. When we got to the street, we saw a van pulling up to the building she went into. We then waited to see what would happen. Two thugs took Cinnamon and this other girl Jewel. I killed one of them and Prophet injured the other one. We grabbed the girls up and the one Prophet shot, took off. He tackled him and we loaded them all into the van. But we learned some things from Jewel. She just saw Deacon at the club where she works, last night.”
Talon stared at me. “Damn…”
I nodded. “She said he’s there most Saturday nights.”
Talon scoffed. “Mighty ballsy of him. Just waltz right into that strip club and take over.”
“Strip club?” I stared at him.
He raised a brow at me. “Yeah, the Cotton Candy that’s the place where Liv and Ace went undercover.”
“Oh, ok.” I nodded. “Jewel said she worked there too.”
“Yeah, she did, poor kid.” Talon growled. “O has been after her. And the fuck if she hadn’t had her picked up the minute Cinnamon went into town.”
