We all went up the steps of the huge ranch house and I got an odd sense of something. I’d been on edge all day, so no telling what it might be. I paused and looked around at the veranda. Then up at the house.
Liberty bumped into me. “Damn Red, what the hell?”
“Does anything seem familiar to you?” I asked him and looked over at Fate.
They paused and looked around.
“Yeah, actually,” Liberty replied. “Dad built this same kind of porch at our house.”
Justice came up the stairs. “What are you all looking at?”
“The porch. Does it look familiar to you?” I asked him.
“Yeah, it’s common I suppose?” Justice said.
“It can happen.” Fate shrugged. “No big deal.” He went inside as Liberty and Justice followed.
I shook my head and went in, then I almost bumped into them. We all just stood there and stared.
“Damn,” Fate exclaimed.
“Right?” Liberty nodded.
“No way.” Justice nearly gawked at the room and what lay beyond it.
I couldn’t believe it either. The place was almost an exact replica for our house. Different furniture and contents but the design was exactly the same.
“Sons,” Jarret called. “Come on.” He waved his hand at us from a large entryway.
We all seemed to come back to our senses as we went into the next room.
The dining room. Again, the same design. Everything inside was different but the room was the same as in our house. I felt like it was some kind of odd deja vu or some weird alternate universe.
“Have a seat.”
I looked over at Talon who had said it. My cousin. He reminded me a lot of dad actually. He sort of had the same look in his eyes and the same build. Maybe this whole family thing was getting to me. I moved over and sat in one of the chairs as did my brothers. We all sat and remained silent.
“If you all don’t mind, I’ll speak first,” Talon said.
We all nodded.
“We as a family have been under siege for…well, almost eight years now. First our father was murdered.” He paused and looked around at his brothers. “It fractured the family. Most of us left here. Raven…” He motioned at one of them, a young man. “He stayed. I was in the military already when it happened. Hawk went and joined an MC.” He gave Hawk a nod. And Dagger, his twin…” He let out a breath. “Was framed for a crime he didn’t commit and he spent more than seven years in prison.”
Hawk now spoke up, “When I finally returned home, Raven had been almost beaten to death and shortly after that, my young son and my woman were taken hostage. Our sister Liv came home and she herself tried to catch this woman O. Recently, Rip over there had his woman kidnapped as well and we went after the person who had done it.” He looked around at us. Then his gaze paused on my dad. “Jarrett, you have a shock coming as well.”
Dad slowly shook his head. “More than what you just told me?”
“A lot more,” someone spoke from the entryway.
We all turned to look.
An older woman stood there. Kind eyes, greying dark hair and she looked nervous.
Dad stood from his chair and stared at her. “Bea…” His voice cracked.
This made us all stare at him and not her. He looked a bit ashen as he stepped over to where she stood.
Reaching out, she took his hand in hers and said, “This woman who did all of that and has now kidnapped your daughter…”
