As I listened to this, I felt entirely lost. What the hell was this batshit crazy woman talking about?

“If only you had done what I asked.” She tisked as if admonishing him.

“I refused when you asked and I don’t regret it.”

“Oh, really?” She smiled. “Your brothers are gone. So you don’t regret that? Cause that was the consequences of you not stepping up to that altar. You realize that right?”

My dad went silent.

I couldn’t see him, only the horrid woman as she sat in that damn rocking chair while looking smug.

“Why did you have my daughter taken?” Dad asked Ms. Crazy, avoiding her questions.

“Who says I did?” she retorted as she picked up a hand fan and waved it in front of her.

Dad stepped closer to the cage. “If she is hurt, youwilldie, Olivia.”

O stared up at him. “Damn Jarret. You are still the best looking man I ever saw.” Batting her eyelashes, she grinned at him. “So sexy when you’re mad. But then again, you only look like him. Underneath, you two were different as night and day.”

“Tell me where she is,” he growled as he again avoided her baiting him.

“And why would I do that?” she quipped.

Stepping closer, he growled, “Because you will live longer.”

Staring into his face, she paused. Then she laughed. “If I die, she dies. You ready for that, Jarret?”

“I’m ready to choke the life from you,” he warned.

She made an O with her mouth in a dramatic mocking of fear. “But you won’t. I mean what would happen to little Glory if you did that?” she cooed in a soft voice.

“Wouldn’t you rather go to prison or perhaps an asylum?” he asked her. “Yes, it had better be a padded cell, because you are fucking insane. You don’t know that though, do you?” he snapped. “It would be better than what will happen to you later.”

“Just trade me for her and all will be well.”

He stepped closer and got right up to the cage with his six foot six frame. “You made it so no matter what happens, I will end up killing you, Olivia,” he threatened her. “You have left me no choice. You murdered my brothers. Did you forget that? I will not rest until you are dead. We can trade you and you still won’t be safe. Now that I know you are in this world, it will be my life’s purpose to find you and take you out of this world.”

“So what is your offer then?” She sneered at him as if she had no fear of his threats. “I tell you where she is, they send me to prison and I am supposed to be happy with that?”

“Yes, at least you won’t be dead.” He paused to take a closer look at her. “Though you look dead already. I have heard that evil cannot be seen in a person, but you wear your evil on the outside now, don’t you? Too bad, Bronson never saw that.”

Now her smile faded from her face as she actually stood from the rocking chair. “He was a decent man. With a big heart. You have no right to speak about him like he was stupid!” she shouted.

I stared at her face. She did look crazed, but what she said made no sense. She had killed this Bronson herself.

Dad stared at her as he shook his head. “If you felt that way, why did you kill him, Olivia?”

Tears shone in her crazed eyes. “He finally figured it out. That I loved Jacob. He was going to leave me. I had already lost Jacob to her! I wasn’t about to be dumped by him.”

“So he had to die for that?” Dad yelled. “Burned up while he slept?”

O slowly shook her head. “He never felt a thing, Jarret,” she spoke in a soft voice now. “I would never do that to him. I made sure he was heavily sedated. He didn’t suffer!” she screamed. “Not like you will, if you don’t trade me for Glory. You do know you have less than 3 days, right?”

All Dad could do was stare at her. Then he finally spoke, “When this is over, I will put you down myself. You are a sick twisted piece of trash. At one time, I felt sorry for you when you pined away for a man that didn’t love you. Now, I just plain ole feel sorry for you, because you aren’t human anymore. Hell, maybe you never were.” He leaned in close and quietly asked, “Do you know what happens to killers when they die?”

For once, O had nothing to say as her eyes remained locked onto his face.

“They have to face their victims, Olivia Claire. So get ready for that. Because I won’t rest until you are six feet under.” Turning, he stalked away.
