That got a smile from him and he pulled me closer to give me a quick kiss. “You did a very good job. Is there anything you’re worried about or that you need to share with me?”
No.
Was there?
“I don’t think so?” That didn’t sound confident enough but he started to smile as I tried to fix it. “There might be something that pops up randomly.”
Brains were hard sometimes.
“I can’t control it.” There was no way I could promise that. “Right now, my biggest worries are rational and not big.”
There was a better word for not big but I lost it somewhere. “It’s making sure I get coffee in the morning because you get up really early and an orgasm of some sort. But I was trying not to think too much about that because we don’t have my hug, so I was kind of worried about how that would turn out.”
Had I said worried too much?
Would he worry about that?
“Not enough to have to confess, though.” There had to be levels to confessions. “That’s just an everyday sub kind of worry. Not a big one.”
I found myself holding my breath as I waited to see if he understood and agreed with me.
He nodded.
Relief made me lightheaded but I leaned into him, so it didn’t matter. He chuckled and shook his head at my drama but his free arm wrapped around me. “Too many little worries and we’re going to have talks, though.”
I wasn’t so sure about that.
“I…” Think. I had to think. Closing my eyes made that better and I imagined standing in the conference room at work giving the monthly numbers report.
I hated thinking.
“I will be willing to hear your thoughts if we get to that point.” I needed more information before I agreed to something like that randomly. “There are a lot of very reasonable small worries that just pop up for most subs I’ve talked to.”
Worriers beat non-worriers at a five-to-one ratio as far as I could tell.
He was quiet for a second before he squeezed my hand. “That’s a very good way to approach the possible rule, and it shows me you’re thinking clearly enough to actually drive to my place.”
That made me laugh.
“I’m kind of ready to stop thinking, but yeah, making sure I can logic and safely drive a car is smart.” If we kept talking, though, he was going to destroy my brain again. “But you distract me really thoroughly without even trying, so I’m going to logic one more time and say that we need to take this conversation to your place before it happens again.”
His laugh that time was wicked and sexy, but he kissed my forehead. “Deal. Open your eyes and take a step back. Once you take a couple of deep breaths, I’ll release your hand.”
Making sure I was steady?
Oh, I guessed I was leaning against him.
Ugh.
More thinking required.
That sucked.
He slowly released me as I obeyed and straightened. Opening my eyes was the most dangerous because he was distractingeven when he wasn’t talking but I did my best to keep my gaze on other things. “I’m not even going to ask what you’re doing.”
Because he already knew.
“I’m going to refer back to that distracting point.” It was late and he’d already stretched my ability to behave to the limit at the gym. Some of that might’ve been my fault, but I wasn’t going to overthink who was to blame.
