Heat flashes through me, settling in my core. “That’s interesting, because my lips wrapped around your big, thick c–.”

The alarms blare throughout the firehouse, causing us both to groan in frustration.

“I’ve got to go, baby girl. We’re not done with this. Keep your phone on you. I’ll text you when I get back.”

“Be safe, Sullivan. I love you.”

“I love you too, Elena.” He tells me right before hanging up. I don’t take offense to the abrupt ending. When the alarms call, he has to drop everything, and I get that.

I hear my Papa before he can knock on my door. His deep baritone voice echoes through the door, and just like that, emotion clogs my throat again. He’s really here.

Before he even gets the chance to knock, I pull the door open and throw myself into his arms. They wrap securely around me as thefloodgates open and I sob openly into his chest. I haven’t hugged him in so long I almost forgot the way his cologne clings to his shirt. The same cologne he’s worn my entire life. He smells like safety and home, and like the good Papa he is, he holds onto me until I pull myself together and step back to look at him.

Theo Rossi is fifty-four years old. He’s about six foot two– if I had to guess– and his short jet black hair is combed neatly. He smiles at me, showing the only sign of his age in his crow’s feet. His whiskey brown eyes take me in, his brow wrinkled in concern.

“Let’s go inside, principessa. We have lots to catch up on.”

“Like how I’ve seen Carlo around town for the past few weeks randomly? Why do you have one of your men following me, Papa?” I ask. I wasn’t going to call him out on it, but I also want to make sure that this is sanctioned by him.

“Well, I guess he needs to be more discreet than he’s been. Come on, Bambina. We have a lot to discuss.”

Chapter eighteen

Sullivan Byrne

Babygirl: I wish you were off tonight.

Sully: Oh yeah? Why’s that?

Babygirl: Because I’m aching for you, Sul. I don’t know how I can wait until morning.

Sully: If I have to wait then so do you. No touching. You’ll just have to wait until I get home and wreck that pretty pink cunt of yours.

Babygirl: Sullivan! I’m in the same room as my father.

Sully: Don’t let him see your phone then. I can’t wait to wake you up in the morning with my head between those perfect thighs. Dammit baby girl, I can practically taste you already.

Babygirl: Stop… This is so uncomfortable.

Sully: This conversation or the fact that you’re aching and dripping for me in the same room as your Da?

Babygirl: The second one.

Sully: Just wait until you’re fighting to be quiet while he’s in the next room as I make you come on my face over and over.

Babygirl: Fuck, I need you.

I’m teetering between too tired to function and pure excitement to fulfill my promise to my girl when I drag myself up the front steps of Elle’s house. We texted back and forth until she fell asleep last night, and while she was sleeping peacefully, I was pulling two victims out of an MVA before the car caught fire. She spent hours teasing me between dirty texts and the sexiest pictures I’ve ever seen. My mouth waters just thinking about it as I unlock her door and push it open. Only to walk face first into the barrel of a Glock.

My eyes narrow on Rossi’s puppy, I mean his security. I wouldn’t be surprised if this guy has been instructed to blow my head off on sight. He doesn’t blink as he lowers his weapon slowly.

“You almost met your end, Byrne.” Elio smirks before holstering his gun.

“I promise, you would have met yours shortly after.” I ground out between clenched teeth.

“I don’t know. You and your brothers seem estranged, no?”
