“Forget it,” Perry said. “I’ll go ask him.”

My head shot up. “What? You?”

“Why not me? This is a work-related problem, and I work here.” He took off down the farmhouse steps and rounded the corner, likely going to grab the gator we kept parked behind the house. I scurried after him, jumping into the passenger seat just as he cranked the engine.

He shot me a look. “We don’tbothneed to go.”

“Just drive,” I said shortly. I didn’t want to go. But I didn’t want Perry to talk to him alone, either.

Perry stopped the gator outside the bunkhouse. On a Saturday, there was no guarantee Tyler was even around, but his car was in the employee parking lot, so that was a good sign.

I followed Perry into the bunkhouse.

Tyler was the only one there. And he was...packing.

He looked up as we approached, his hands hovering over a duffle that lay open on his bed.

I suddenly couldn’t bear the thought of Tyler feeling put on the spot with Perry watching. What if he didn’t feel comfortable filming a wedding? What if he didn’t have the skillset? Or the equipment?

I reached out and touched Perry’s arm. “Let me do it,” I said softly. “I can do it.”

He nodded. “Okay. I’ll wait for you outside.”

I walked the last few feet to where Tyler stood. “Hi,” I said.

He put the t-shirt he held into his bag. “Hello.”

“Going somewhere?”

He lifted his eyes to mine. “Yeah, um, yesterday was my last day.”

My stomach tightened. “Kelly didn’t tell me.”

He shrugged. “It was kind of a last-minute thing. Sorry. I probably should have given you more formal notice.”

I shook my head. “No, it doesn’t matter. Don’t worry about that.” I took a step closer. “Where will you go?”

“Back to Charleston to see Darcy, and then...” He shoved another pile of shirts into the bag. “I don’t know. I haven’t really figured anything out beyond that.”

Hurt pricked my heart. “Were you not going to tell me?”

He raised an eyebrow, his expression cool. “We haven’t talked in two weeks, Olivia. You asked for time, and I’m giving it to you. But I can’t just keep...spinning my wheels here. I have a future I have to think about too.”

“Actually, about that.”

He waited, his lips pressed into a thin line.

“There’s this wedding happening this afternoon,” I said. “And their videographer is in the hospital with kidney stones, and they don’t have anyone to cover for them and since you’re here, and you have a camera, we just thought—I just thought maybe you could do it.”

“I don’t know anything about shooting weddings, Liv.”

The way my name rolled off his lips made my palms itch and my heart clench. Every word he said elicited a physical reaction in my body. Which was ridiculous. He was just aman.

“But you have a camera. And you know how to use it. Could you maybe just... try?”

He huffed a laugh. “It’s not exactly that simple. I don’t know what shots are most important. I don’t know the best composition. I’ve never done anything like this before.”

“But you have really good instincts. I know you do. You’re always talking about wanting to tell stories. There’s a story to tell today.”
