“Alpha?” Leona paws my chest while pulling my arm. I shake her off and step away, intending on chasing after my wife. She is gone, though. She didn’t even turn back when I called her.

“Why?” I growled furiously as I slowly turned towards the women. “Why would you think that was okay? To disrespect your Luna like that on our wedding day, why would you-?”

“Lanny,” Leona pathetically whines out the nickname many of the girls call me, cutting off my question. “Don’t be like that. You looked like you were struggling, so we came to help. You told us she wasn’t going to be anything more than an annoying guest,” she pops her hip out to the side, “You said she would never be our Luna, Lanny. I don’t know why you are being so mean.”

I pinch the bridge of my nose, focusing on containing my lycan, who is trying to break free and tear this woman apart for insulting our mate. How am I going to get close to Lira now? How am I going to overcome this misunderstanding?

“Alpha?” Yasmin, the girl I used to frequent more than the others because she was the least clingy. “I’m sorry if we offended you. We can leave,” she murmurs, pulling Leona back meekly. “We will see you later,” she bows politely, many of the other girls following her lead.

“You won’t,” I told them coldly. “I won’t be coming back again. I’m a married man, and I won’t betray my wife.”

Leona scoffs, “Lanny, you can’t be serious. You said-”

“I SAID,” I yelled above her, using enough of my aura, letting Killian push to the surface to make my point, “I will not betray mywifeandyour Luna,”I glared at her menacingly until she submitted, bowing her head in compliance, but still bearing an arrogant grimace on her lips. Most of the guests had stopped to observe the confrontation and my bout of anger. Good. There will be many to witness me sending these women away. “Do you understand?”

“Yes, Alpha,” she murmured before joining the rest of the girls as they flinted off to the open bar. I sent a quick mind link to Nilo to get them out of here. I see him across the hall, and he nods before moving towards the group to carry out my order.

How did they get into the packhouse? Most of the women are human, though Leona isn’t. She is a half-breed, whose parents died in the war.

She probably led the rest of the girls here, now that I think about it. The packhouse is open to all Lycan and werewolf kinds in my pack, so she would always be allowed access.

I’ll deal with that later. I’ll talk to the guards and warriors about preventing Leona from running around as she wishes, causing problems for my mate and wife.

“If that bitch pulls a stunt like that again, you had better deal with it. It’s your fault she thinks she can come and go as she pleases.”

“I know, damn it.”I was a real prick before. I got so overwhelmed with my desire for Lira before that I would invite women into the packhouse and into my bed all the time. Leona and Yasmin would often visit me in the packhouse before Lira came whenever I called for them. It got to be where Leona would seek me out after a while. I never discouraged her, which I should have.

I forgot about that. After Lira rejected me and ran away, I didn’t see Leona, Yasmin, or any of the other brothel women again. I didn’t touch another woman. Killian wouldn’t have let me if I wanted to, which I didn’t.

“Damn right, I wouldn’t have. We had the perfect woman given to us, and you spent two years pushing her away. You hurt our mate enough. I wouldn’t let you do it again.”

“You’re like a broken record sometimes,”I growled.

I’m walking as fast as I can towards the room I had Lira originally set up in. It’s on the farthest side of the castle, far from the rest of the rooms, and I had to climb two flights of stairs to make it there. I need to apologize and explain to her that what just happened will never happen again. I just need to see her and make sure she is alright. That she is still here, and hasn’t run away again.

Just as I got near her room, I came to a stop and backtracked around the stairwell, spotting Lira in the hallway outside of her bedroom talking to Cherum, my Delta.

“Luna, please. I am only here to serve you.”

She sighs loudly. “I told you, it wasn’t necessary. This is only temporary. I will be gone in two years.”

Cherum shifts uncomfortably on his feet, but Lira doesn’t back down. My heart drops to hear her say she is still planning on leaving me after 2 years.

“I’m sorry, Luna, but I still wish to serve you. At least let me help you move your belongings to your new room.”

“New room?” she asked.

I sneak a glance around the stairwell and she is tilting her face in an adorable way. She looks graceful and lovely, even in this awkward situation. Killian is purring at the sight of her. I wish to run my knuckles down her supple cheeks and their rosy glow.

Cherum nods enthusiastically. “Alpha ordered for you to be moved to be near him. Probably so you both could start sharing a room soon. If you are up here, how can you-”

She holds her delicate hand up, stopping his words, a look of agitation crossing her face.

“I have no plans to ever share a room or anything else with your alpha, Delta Rosewood. I would rather stay up here. Now, I’m tired. It has been an exhausting day. I hope you men enjoy your night in town. It seems your alpha you claim wants me closer to him is getting started with hisevening activitiesdownstairs in our reception hall."

"Evening activities?" he asks in confusion.

"Yes. The women of the night, I believe," she shrugs as if she expected it. As if it is normal for a husband to invite prostitutes to his wedding reception. She thinks so low of me. " Now, if you will excuse me,” she bows her head, then turns to enter the room, softly closing the door behind her.
