“I don’t know what it is between us but it makes it hard for me to not be with you.”
Jamie didn’t respond, but then again, she didn’t need to. Having her in my arms was enough. I needed this when I’m so full of uncertainty about the state of my sector. All that makes sense right now is having this woman in my arms.
I know we eventually have to get out of the shower but I go on holding her, not wanting to let go.
I bury my face against her neck and tighten my hold on her loving the feel of her skin pressed to mine.
Reluctantly, I press the button the control panel and turn off the water. After stepping out of the shower stall, I carry her to the bed and law her down on top of the covers. I instantly miss the feel of her when she’s no longer in my arm.
Jamie reaches out for me, seeming to miss me as well, but I pull away from the bed. I bend over to give her a kiss on the forehead. “I’ll be back.”
I go into the bathroom to retrieve a towel and I notice a basket by the tub full of lotions and creams, courtesy of Willa. I recognize one of the jars as the special cream that was gifted to me by the Sector 8 Leader. I grab that as well.
Jamie is sitting on the edge of the bed when I return.
“Could you stand up for me?”
She slides off the bed and I proceed to towel her off, taking care to get every inch of her body while being mindful of her back.
Once I’m satisfied with my task. I guide her back to the bed. “On your stomach.”
She groans. “Do I have to?”
“Yes.” I say as I take the jar of cream.
I can see the reluctance in her eyes as she slowly rolls over. Her back is clearly an insecurity for her, but Jamie’s scars are a part of her, and I could never be disgusted by them.
Once she’s on her stomach, I dip my finger in the cool cream and run it into each one of her scars taking as much care as possible.
Jamie sniffs. And then she sniffs again. Is she crying?
She moves her hand to her face to hastily wipes her cheek.
Alarm fills my chest. “Why are you crying?”
“You’re not supposed to be kind to me. This isn’t what I was expecting. I want to hate you.”
Her words confuse and sadden me. It’s understandable, based on what happened to her, that she’d be wary of anyone in authority over her, but it still hurts that she still sees me as the enemy.
“How did you expect me to act toward you?”
She sniff again. “I don’t know…I guess I expected you to treat me no better than Master Fredresk. Like an object you can use and discard whenever you get tired of me. I bet you have several companions on hand, don’t you?”
I raise a brow. “If I didn’t know any better, I would think you were jealous.”
“I’m not jealous,” she quickly retorts making it clear that she was indeed jealous.
“It’s true I have companions, but I haven’t visited either of them long before you arrived.”
“I find that hard to believe.”
“I have no reason to lie to you Jamie. I’m not ashamed of my conduct.”
“Then why haven’t you visited them? Isn’t the point of having a companion to take care of your…er...needs?”
“That’s true but these past months, my sector has been in chaos. I’ve barely been at the fortress. Since you arrived, I’ve had to go to and handle emergencies that keep cropping up. Besides…”
I break off not wanting to admit that I had lose interest in visiting either of the two companions currently assigned to me. They were both beautiful women who were well mannered and satisfying in bed. But the thought of going to either of them after being with Jamie holds no appeal.
