The older generation aren’t very fucking faithful to the women they claim to love, and all that has done is make my generation not want a woman for life.
I place myself in Skylar’s path and take a deep breath as I slow my pace and look down at my phone, unlock it, and pretend to be busy on it before bracing myself.
Fuck I hope she isn’t the type of girl to throw a hissy fit when someone bumps into her.
A gasp echoes as I bash into her, and I grunt, playing the part, ensuring to drop my phone in the process, hoping my screen doesn’t shatter before her books splatter on the floor, papers going everywhere, and fuck do I wince.
“Oh my god, I am so sorry. I wasn’t looking where I was going,” she gasps, her voice going through me, and I look at her, our eyes locking.
Fuck me, her picture doesn’t do her justice.
She’s fucking stunning.
Her pure black hair is up in a messy knot, and her face is clear of makeup.
Shame she’s a fucking job…
“It’s uh, it’s alright. I wasn’t looking either,” I grunt as I crouch down and grab my phone before I begin to grab all her textbooks, and she quickly joins me.
“I really am sorry,” she says a few minutes later, and I half smile at her as we stand before I carefully hand her the heavytextbooks, placing them on top of the ones she picked up, my hand gently brushing against her.
Electric volts shoot through me, and I look at her hand with a frown.
What the fuck was that?
Shaking my head, I clear my throat and say, “It’s okay,” and she gives me a slight smile before looking at her watch and winces. “Late for something?” I ask, already knowing she teaches in study hall for extra cash, and she sighs.
“Yeah, a student asked for my help with auditing,” she admits, and I smile.
“So you’re smart then, huh?” I confirm with a chuckle, and her cheeks heat as she admits, “Yeah, just not very socially smart, I guess.”
I chuckle, “Well, we can’t have it all,” and she snorts.
Clearing her throat, she says, “I’m Skylar.”
I grin, “Nyx, it’s nice to meet you, precious.”
She raises a brow and questions, “Precious?”
I shrug and admit, “You just seem really sweet, is all…”
Her cheeks heat again, and I swallow hard. I didn’t mean to call her precious, fuck, I don’t even know where it came from.
She hums, then checks her watch again before stating, “Well, uh, I’ve got to get going.”
I nod and say, “Sure, it was nice meeting you.”
“You too, Nyx,” she whispers, and my heart skips, but I swallow the emotion, and just as she goes to walk past me, I say, “You know I’m new to town and could do with a friend, even a clumsy one like you.”
She laughs as she grabs her pen before she writes her number, which I already have, on the corner of her workbook before tearing it off and handing it to me.
I take it willingly and say, “Thanks, I’ll call you,” and she grins, shaking her head before waving at me, then rushing up the stairs, and my soft smile disappears, hating that I have to do this.
Walking backward while getting my phone out, I turn and quickly bring Blade’s number up.
“Fury?” he answers on the second ring.
“It’s done, she gave me her number,” is all I say before I hang up, a pit in my stomach building, but I swallow it down, knowing I need to do what my president orders, even if I don’t agree with him.
