The insinuation is clear as day, and fuck me…
“She’s trusting me again,” I choke with realization, and Mama lets out a sob while my dad grips my shoulder.
“Go back to our girl, Nyx, and finally claim her,” Anna says, and I whisper, “Thank you for being the mother she needed,” before I hang up and look at my parents.
“Anna’s been bringing Skylar up?” Mama confirms, and I nod and say, “You can’t tell anyone, she’s not ready.”
Mama nods, and she rasps, “I told you all Anna was amazing,” and I chuckle a little, running my hand through my hair.
“Go to your woman, son,” Dad commands, and I swallow hard but nod, then look at Mama and say, “Can you drop Tate off at preschool?”
She nods as she walks over to me and kisses my cheek, mumbling, “Of course, I need all the time I can get before Skylar has her full time,” and I chuckle a little before turning and walking out.
I’m one lucky fucker to have them as parents.
I climb on my bike with my phone in hand before I bring up Blade's number.
He answers within five rings and snaps, “Brother, I have fucking twins on the way. I need all the sleep I can get, so this better be important!”
I snort, “How about Melissa borrowing money from the Hyenas and can’t afford to pay it back, meaning they’ll go after Sky?”
“Fuck!” he curses, then snaps, “Leave it to me. I’ll make it so they believe Melissa has no family, and that bitch will have no contact with her daughter. I know that may hurt Sky, but the woman is keeping her back from me.”
Blade hangs up before I can say anything else, and I shake my head, not bothering to call back and deny his words.
That fucker will soon have a shock when he finds out the truth.
Huffing, I put my phone in my pocket before starting my bike, then gently ride off, not wanting to wake my daughter.
Twenty minutes later, I gently unlock the door and open it slowly before shutting it behind me and locking it up.
I place the keys in the bowl, then turn to where I left Skylar. I smile softly at seeing her cuddled up to the pillow my head was on.
Shaking my head, I quickly remove my cut, placing it on the kitchen counter, then remove my jeans and boots before walkingover to my girl butt naked, my eyes taking her in, her hair half covering her face.
Fuck me, she’s beautiful.
I gently move some of her hair out of her face, and I whisper, “I’m so sorry, baby,” seeing the tears staining her cheeks and guilt fills me once again.
Sighing softly, I gently lift Sky into my arms, her head instantly going to the crook of my neck, her warm breath soothing me, and I walk towards her bedroom down the hall, or at least I think it’s her room.
I slowly push the door with my back, then softly, after noticing it is her room, I gingerly move the sheets back on her dark brown bed and then cover her up. Just then, my eyes go to her nightstand, and I grin wide.
A picture of me astride my bike, grinning at her, sits in a gold frame, and one of Tate and Mama Lopez.
Fuck, this girl never did stop loving me, huh?
Shaking my head, I climb in behind my girl and gently push my arm underneath her head, placing my hand on her breast. I cup it while wrapping my other around her waist, my face going into the back of her neck, and I melt in contentment falling asleep with ease for the first time in years all while trying to push away my guilt.
Chapter 16
Skylar – Two Days Later
I smile as I watch Tate carefully draw around the shapes that I bought her yesterday, her tongue poking out, looking absolutely adorable as she tries to concentrate and my stomach tightens a little. A feeling like something is missing fills me yet again when it is just the two of us.
