I love him so god damn much, but I’m scared, and I know why Mama encouraged me to do this, to face my fear, because I’d be lost without this man.
He’s mine just like I’m his, and I think it’s time I let him in again to trust him, and unless I try, I’ll never know if trust can be built.
“Raya attacked the Hyenas,” I whisper, and he tenses but doesn’t say anything. I continue, “I know why you left early, why you haven’t called today. You thought I didn’t trust you still, and in a way, I don’t,” I pull back and lock eyes with him, “Trust has to be earned when broken, but I’m not really giving you a chance to earn it back after you lied to me. I know you’ve kept Mama’s secret, which has slowly helped you earn it back, but I hadn’t let you in fully because I was scared of being hurt again, especially after what I went through.”
Nyx gently cradles my cheek, his eyes softening. I admit, “Her dad was killed in a house fire, and it was believed the Hyenas set the house on fire with a family inside, and all but one got out,” my eyes tear up, “The smallest child was stuck, and Raya’s father, Chase Wilson, ran into the burning building when he heard the child screaming.”
“Fuck, I heard that story, he died a hero…” Nyx says, and I nod.
I reply, “He did but Raya, she didn’t see it that way when she learned the father of the child that died had a debt with the Hyenas. That they set the house on fire to kill the family when he didn’t pay it back, missing the deadline.”
Nyx sniffs hard, his jaw ticking as he mutters, “That family man's wife turned up dead, beaten, and raped not long after the family left town.”
I nod and confirm, “They are all dead. The two men that Raya tried to attack when she was seventeen gloated about killing them and about how she and her mama were next. They didn’t know who the firefighter was at the time. Despite the massive parade for the funeral the town had, they never put two and two together until that night when she pounced, wanting revenge.”
“So how did you end up killing one?” Nyx asks softly.
I blink and explain as the memory hits me hard.
“It isn’t like Raya to be late...” I say as I quickly rush down the steps from the library, looking left and right, Ivy following, also looking concerned.
“I’ll try calling her again,” she says, and I nod, trying to figure out which way to go because I have no idea where she’s meeting us from when I hear a phone ringing to my left.
“That way!” I say and run towards the sounds of Raya’s ringtone for Ivy before I hear grunting, “You think you can kill him and get away with it, huh?”
My heart races as we round the corner to the alleyway, and Ivy gasps at the scene before us while bile rises in my throat.
A man who is lying in his own blood is dead on the floor while Raya’s jeans are beside her and a guy is, is….
Oh god….
She’s barely conscious, blood covering her body, and I see the metal bar on the floor covered in blood.
I don’t think. Instead, I rush over to it and pick it up before I shout,“Jackass!” and the man looks my way with a sneer, but his eyes widen as I swing, hitting his temple.
He grunts and falls off a now unconscious Raya, and I hit him in the head again before he falls to the floor, a gash down the side of his face pouring with blood, his eyes open, and I throw the bar next to him and rush to Raya, quickly checking her pulse while Ivy covers her with her coat.
“I didn’t think Nyx, just like with Mama, I let my instincts kick in and did what I had to do before Ivy got her car and we drove her to the hospital. Mama sorted the rest, but-but, she nearly died that night, and instead of backing off, she’s become relentless in getting rid of the gang,” I finish, and he sighs, holding me tighter as my phone rings.
Sighing again, he leans over and grabs my bag, passing it to me, but doesn’t let me go with his other arm, instead placing the bag between us.
I quickly get my phone out but shake my head, seeing it’s Melissa, and hang up, putting my phone back away before he puts my bag back in his saddle.
“Does she call a lot?” he asks, and I shake my head and admit, “She’s scared of Mama…”
He nods, placing his forehead against mine, our eyes connecting, and he admits, “Your secret is safe with me, and no one within the club will know about Raya.”
I nod, sniffling, “I’m putting all my trust in you here, Nyx.”
“I know,” he murmurs, “And I won’t take it for granted,” before he slightly presses his lips against mine but not hard enough for my liking. I lean forward, pushing harder, and he groans as he opens his mouth for my tongue, and all my senses go.
“Fuck,” he curses, breaking the kiss, “did you know I’ve always had a dream of fucking my girl on my bike?”
I grin against his lips, and I ask, “What are you waiting for then?”
“Absolutely nothing,” he mutters before slamming his lips against mine again, and I tilt my head to deepen the kiss as he bends slightly, grabbing my ass before he lifts me.
I wrap my legs around his waist, my dress lifting up as he turns us and sits me on his bike, our kiss heating up and he moves a hand between us, gripping my panties.
