A family man borrowed money from them but couldn’t pay it back, plus the interest that they always add on after a year, so they decided to burn his family home with him, his wife, and three kids inside. Their signature way of proving that they’re not to be messed with despite the fact there are only eight members in their gang, only adding one person in once in a blue moon believing keeping numbers small is the better way to go.

The father managed to save his wife and two kids but couldn’t get his third, the youngest and Chase, being a firefighter at the scene, ran in to save the child, but both didn’t come back out. Raya was fifteen at the time and a complete daddy’s girl, and though her Mama, Grace, has moved on, marrying Mr. Averie, the club’s lawyer who Raya adores, she just can’t get over her father’s death especially when the police can’t find the evidence to send the Hyenas down for murder, heck, even the family man is presumed dead now.

After running with his surviving family, his wife’s body was found in the river, bloodied, beaten, and used, and he and his kids could not be found, which just doubled Raya’s need for revenge.

“I need money,” Melissa says, snapping me out of my head. The blood covering my hands slowly fades from my vision, and I sigh.

She continues, “Brick has decided to put me back on the basic wage, meaning I’m short.”

I laugh, “Well, sucks to be you then huh, Melissa?” her face reddens, and I sneer at her, “You’re not getting a cent out of me, so turn your nasty ass around and get out!”

She takes a step forward and threatens, “You will give me what I want, or get your father to pay me more again, or I will –”

I cut her off, “Or you’ll go to the cops with the proof that you don’t really have, blah, blah, blah,” her nostrils flare, and I slowly stand, and this time I threaten, “Get out before I force you.”

She opens her mouth, about to say something but freezes when a voice full of anger snaps, “You have five seconds to fuck off before I slice your throat!”

Melissa’s face pales as she slowly turns and comes face to face with Mama, and I grin, crossing my arms over my chest.

“I-I, uh, I need money,” Melissa stutters, and I wince.

That was the wrong thing to say.

Mama curls her lip and sneers, “My husband has funded your habit long enough, skank,” before she grabs hold of Melissa’s ponytail and yanks her forward, making her cry out as she stumbles, but that doesn’t break Mama’s stride, as she drags her out of the building and I sit back down with a smile.

“The next time that woman comes in here, I’ll kill her,” Mama snaps a few seconds later as she shuts my office door and takes aseat while placing two small containers on my desk, one in front of me and one in front of her and I grin.

“Waffles, whipped cream, strawberries, and chocolate sauce?” I confirm, and she snorts, “Of course,” and my mouth waters as I open my container and see my favorite food, which happens to be Mama’s as well.

Mama mutters, “You are me through and through, huh?” and I shrug, not denying it as I take a large bite, groaning at the gooey sweetness, making her laugh and take a bite out of her own.

“Have you been to see Hudson?” I ask between bites, not bothering to speak about Melissa, and Mama hums, “Yes,” as she wipes her mouth and says, “he’s getting bigger, stronger, and finally, Dr. Asshole is changing his tune about him living a normal life.”

Dr. Asshole, AKA Dr. Clark, tried to convince an over-emotional Ivy to pull the plug on her baby, stating they don’t normally intervene medically with a twenty-week fetus after birth. She held strong with her family standing behind her every step of the way, my mama, the main vocalist against the ass, especially when Ivy was unconscious.

“Luna’s pregnant with twins,” Mama suddenly says, and I swallow hard.

I like Luna, she’s had a hard life, one I was entwined in for twenty minutes when I stopped her from being raped or thought I had. I didn’t realize the guy was raping her regularly and if I had, I would have killed him then and there, saving her more heartache.

“That’s good, Mama,” I whisper, not knowing what to say.

She’s Blade’s fiancée, someone I want nothing to do with, meaning a friendship with Luna isn’t on the cards right now, which kind of sucks because the woman is sweet but I can’t force her to feel like she’s picking sides.

“Sweet pea,” Mama begins, and I sigh and look at her with sad eyes and state, “I can’t,” and she knows I can’t, not without smacking him for the way he sat back and allowed Mama to be hurt, to be made an outcast.

“He’s your brother, Sky,” she tries, and I remind her, “And you are my mother in every way except blood. I won’t disrespect you, I won’t break your trust, and I certainly won’t play nice, not with how they’ve treated you.”

Mama looks down, sadness etching her, and I mutter, “I love you, Mama,” hating that I’ve disappointed her but not willing to bend on this one, and she looks at me with a smile, a love shining back at me.

I may have grown up adamant about getting to know them without Melissa finding out, but after I had found out what Mama went through, I knew I couldn’t have a relationship with them, I hated them.

I grew up with this woman, and I couldn’t wish for a better role model. I don’t need anyone else but her, and well, Ivy, Lake, and Raya.

“I love you too, sweet pea,” she replies, and I smile wide but soon groan when she changes tactics and says, “So when are you going to give Fury a second chance? Because baby girl, he has not touched another woman since you…”

I shake my head and confirm, “You are never going to give up, are you?”

The woman is part of Team Fury and has been for years, but trying to forgive the lying is hard. I love his daughter, and I’m in love with him. That will never change, but you know what will also never change? The cut on his back, his loyalty to men who made up shit about this woman, to men who gave him a job to befriend me, to lie to me.
