“Well, thank you again for speaking to me. And I’m sorry we couldn’t tell you sooner.”
Ash shrugged. “Just keep making him deliriously happy, I guess. It’s nice to see, even if it’s weird.” His lips dipped down into a brief scowl, as if he couldn’t help himself. “Don’t tell him I said that.”
“Wouldn’t dream of it.” Eli mimed zipping his lips.
Despite Ash’s assurances that he could handle himself, Eli waited until his car had arrived and he was safely on his way before Eli headed into the house. They didn’t speak much more than they already had, but it wasn’t an uncomfortable silence. Whatever Noah had said to his brother about his and Eli’s relationship, it seemed to have sunk in.
Noah was waiting for Eli in the entryway, having clearly been watching them through the window. “He behaved?”
“He’s …” Eli tried to think of how to put it. “Well, ‘sweet’ definitely isn’t the word. But he cares.”
“He does.”
Eli sagged with a sudden realization. “Oh god, I’m going to have to go through that five more times, aren’t I?”
Why the fuck did Noah have to have so many siblings?
Noah’s grin was unrepentant. “Don’t forget parents. And the roommates.”
“I should’ve found myself a lonely, friendless orphan.” But Eli was smiling too. He felt … giddy. Almost high. He stepped closer to Noah. “I have to teach summer classes this year.”
“Your penance?” At Eli’s nod, Noah wrapped him up in a hug. “I’m sorry, baby. But there’s still a little gap in between classes, right?” He nuzzled Eli’s hair. “You ever been backpacking? I want to take you backpacking. In the Sierras.”
“With the dirt and the mosquitos and the lack of bathrooms?”
“And the breathtaking scenery and crystal-clear lakes to swim in.”
Eli wasn’t a natural outdoorsman, as far as he knew, but after spending so much time cooped up, hiding themselves from the world, running away to the great wide open actually sounded amazing. Room to breathe. Room to settle.
A little adventure, just the two of them.
“Okay. Yeah. Let’s go backpacking this summer.” He laughed. “Why the hell not?”
They’d tried.They really had.
They were supposed to be catching up on their missed work—Eli’s grading, Noah’s schoolwork.
But somehow Noah’s hand was now down Eli’s pants, his fingers grabbing greedily at Eli’s ass while his mouth terrorized Eli’s neck.
“How did you—oh god,” Eli whimpered as Noah nipped him, as if chastising him for speaking, “end up over here?”
They’d started on opposite sides of the couch, hadn’t they?
Eli could feel Noah’s grin against the tender skin of his throat. “Did you know you get very distracted when you’re in work mode?” He tugged Eli’s shirt down to mouth at his shoulder, marking new territory. “I bet I could get my dick in you without you even noticing.”
“I—” Eli gasped as Noah’s finger pressed against his hole deliberately. He’d be able to slide it in no problem, if he wanted—Eli was somehow already dripping slick. “I highly doubt that. Your, um, member isn’t exactly sneaky.”
Noah finally leaned back to give him an incredulous look. “Mymember?”
“I don’t know!” Eli flapped his hands, his cheeks heating as he tried to decide if he was going to push Noah away or demand he get naked. “My brain fritzed.”
They really should be working right now, but …
He scooted back to give Noah’smemberan assessing stare. “How fast can you be?”
Noah gave him a look. “Baby, I’m twenty-one. I can last thirty seconds if you let me.”
Eli giggled. Things had always been good and easy between them—from that very first night, really—but there was a new lightness to it all. Yes, they were still technically secret until the end of the year, but that was just in public, in the kind of settings administration might be involved with.
