“Agreed. Let’s retreat and come up with a plan,” I say.
How that must have hurt Orion to make that sacrifice for the world, losing out on a life with his mate only to watch her from the sky day and night. I would have lost my mind long ago in his position.
We ease back off the hill and rush back to the cover of the trees and the cars. “What do we know for sure?”
“Artemis is inside with her bow,” Orion says.
“The others were caught but appear to have a plan, however idiotic that plan may be.” Raven ticks off two fingers.
“Olly is not with them; his whereabouts are unknown,” Jayden says.
“And the other team is here and most likely under mind-control, all but Mia who is a traitorous bitch,” Dax adds.
Kira tilts her head back. “Orion may be the only one who can get inside the temple and save Artemis.”
“There’s too many monsters for us to fight them all ourselves,” Greyson says.
“Hopefully we won’t need to,” I say. “What we need is a way to get Orion past the horde without being seen.”
“Even if I shadow walk him past them, there are a few at the door. I can’t shadow walk inside there. I could end up inside a wall and trust me, that sucks.” Jayden shudders.
“What we need is a distraction. Give them what the bitch queen has wanted all along.” I grin.
“Nope. Fuck no. You’re not going to be monster bait again.” Jayden turns me to face him and plants his hands on my shoulders. “Not gonna happen, love.”
“It’s the best way to distract them for you to get to the temple with Orion.” I fold my arms over my chest.
“Beth, this doesn’t have to be all on you. They want all of us dead at this point because we are the only thing standing between them and this pointless civil war,” Raven says. “We can all distract them.”
“Fine.” I sigh.
“How do we get the others out?” Dax asks, his expression worried.
“That was the distraction I was originally thinking. I could transport to them and cut their bindings, bringing the monster’s attention on me from the inside, while you guys come up with something to distract the monsters over here.” I shrug.
“That actually sounds like a solid plan to me,” Kira says. “But you have to take me with you.”
“I don’t know if I can. I’ve only ever called Jayden to me. It doesn’t work with anyone else when I try.”
Orion tilts his head to the side. “Does your electricity hurt him?”
“No,” Jayden says. “No matter how much that pissed her off in the beginning. Her magic can’t harm me.”
“What about yours? Could it hurt her?” Orion asks, intrigued.
“Why would I ever try to find that out?” Jayden asks. “I don’t try to hurt her, ever.”
“You might be mates, though I have never heard of demigods having mates.” Orion taps his foot. “This is most curious.”
“Let’s put a pin in the mates conversation while we’re on the edge of the battlefield, please?” I throw my hands up in the air.
“Wait for our signal, Jayden and Orion. When the focus of the monsters turns to us instead of the entrance to the temple, I want you to move.”
“Wait,” Kira says. “I need to go with you, Beth. I have to save them.”
“I’ll get them out, I promise. I don’t want to hurt you accidentally because I don’t know what I’m doing with these constantly growing powers.”
“Can we do a test run? If it doesn’t work, I promise I’ll let you handle it,” Kira begs.
