“What?” Greyson yells. “You’re not hanging out the window again, Raven.”
“We’re gonna have to stop the car. He doesn’t even have to get close to take us out.” Raven glares at Greyson.
“You want to get out of the car and fight a giant robot?” Greyson throws up his hands.
“It’s no bigger than the golem we fought in the underworld.” I shrug, unbuckling my seat belt to be ready.
Jayden scoffs, “You mean the golem that nearly killed you?”
“This is a fantastic plan.” Greyson grimaces.
“What if unsuspecting humans come through here and get smashed?” I ask.
They are being ridiculous. We are demigods. This is what we do.
“Who do we think this is, B?” Raven asks.
I rack my brain for a myth about a giant automaton, but I come up with nothing.
“I don’t know. We may have to get closer to figure it out.” I chew my lip.
Jayden squeezes my thigh. “You’re really planning on getting out and fighting that thing, aren’t you?”
“What would you suggest? We keep driving and hoping we can avoid the boulders. That’s not practical. The thing is going to follow us. What if it follows us into the city and destroys it? People will get hurt.”
“You could get hurt,” Jayden growls.
“That’s a possibility no matter what we decide to do. I’d rather stay and fight to minimize the damage.” I watch the giant out the window readying another boulder.
“Talos,” Draven yells from the back.
“What?” I turn to him sharply.
“Talos. He protected the island of Crete from unwanted visitors,” Draven says smugly.
Adrian raises his eyebrows at me, a smirk playing over his lips. If he tells me I told you so, I’m going to zap him for sure.
Raven pulls her ax from the ether and glares at Draven. “How do we kill it?”
“I don’t know,” Draven mumbles.
“Well, we need to figure something out because we have another huge rock headed for us,” I yell.
Jayden throws the SUV into reverse to avoid the latest attempt to smash us. This is getting really annoying.
“Duck,” Jayden shouts as he attempts to see out the back window where he’s going.
“I like this even less than I did in your car, Jayden.” I grip the oh shit bar above my head.
“Yeah, I don’t like it either,” Jayden says. “Draven, move your fat head.”
“Fuck off, Jayden. I thought you were good at this.” Draven grins.
“I am when people aren’t blocking my view out the back window.” Jayden leans over to see around Draven, but the ass just moves with him.
Adrian reaches up and snags Draven’s shirt and pulls his head down. “I don’t feel like dying today, asshole.”
Jayden slams on the brake and throws the SUV into park. I scramble out of the car and survey the desert around us. The sun is too bright and I raise my hand to shade my eyes from it.
