“Agreed.” I turn to the other healer. “Are you okay to deal with this? We really are on a time crunch.”
“Go alert the headmistress. I will take care of this mess.” The healer stands up and surveys the damage.
It’s destroyed. I’m not exactly sure how he’s going to take care of it.
I reach a hand out to help Raven from her crouch and we all rush to the door. Jayden is next to me the second we step out into the quad. His hand wraps around mine.
“Let’s go warn Rebecca and get out of here.” Jayden squeezes my hand.
Kira clears her throat. “Don’t forget to go see Claud. He has gifts for you and Adrian. They will help on your mission.”
“Shit.” I slap a hand to my forehead. “I almost forgot. Thanks, Kira. For everything.”
“No problem. Get Dax back.” Her cheeks turn pink.
Is she blushing? She really does have a crush on Dax. This is extremely good news.
Kira hurries away before I can respond and I raise an eyebrow at Raven.
“Was she really just checking that he was still in chains?” I ask with a giggle.
“Somehow, I don’t think so,” Raven says.
Jayden tugs on my hand. “We should probably hurry and find Rebecca if we want to get out of here before noon.”
We rush to the admin building and I scan the area for any sign of Cross but he’s nowhere to be found.
“What are you looking for?” Jayden asks, raising a brow.
“Cross,” I say at the same time as Raven. “I don’t want him thinking we’re snooping again.”
“Good point.” Jayden nods and pulls open the door.
“If we keep moving, maybe this time he won’t freak out if he spots us.” I step through the door in front of Jayden.
“Maybe.” Raven doesn’t sound convinced. “We were standing around outside the conference rooms both times before.”
We rush down the winding halls to Rebecca’s office without stopping and I knock on the door loudly.
“My gods, come in,” Rebecca calls from the other side of the door.
Thank the gods she’s actually in her office when we need her. I open the door quickly and we walk into her office.
Rebecca raises an eyebrow at the intrusion but doesn’t comment. The expressions on our faces probably say it all.
“What do you need? Are you getting ready to leave?” she asks.
“Well, yes, but that’s not why we’re here.” I flop on her couch.
Jayden takes a seat next to me. “Dax escaped and we think he had help.”
Rebecca stands so quickly that her chair scrapes against the marble floor. “How is that possible?”
“We think one of the healers was mind-controlled. He was in a daze when he woke up.” I chew my lip. “We think that whoever is doing this is taking our best fighters to mount an attack on the academy. You need to be vigilant.”
“We will. You all need to get moving. The sooner this has all been taken care of, the better. Do you have the cards I gave you on your first mission?” Rebecca asks.
“Yes, Rebecca, I keep mine in my duffel I always keep packed.” I stand up and move to the door.
