“I don’t believe in coincidence.”
If Hecate was the one coming to the academy, she very well could have been using magic to change her voice the last time, so what’s so important about the conference rooms that weird shit keeps happening there?
“Should we go back and see if we can find any clues? Do you think there’s someone on campus doing this?” Raven asks.
“I don’t know if that’s a good idea. What if they control one of you?” I tighten my grip on Jayden.
The thought of one of them being controlled scares the hell out of me. Could I do what needs to be done to save them?
Jayden holds me out to arm’s length. “Tell me how you made the shield with your power. We should all be able to create the same type of block.”
“It was kind of instinct. I let my magic fill me, and then I wrapped it around my mind until it pushed the voice out.” I shrug.
Jayden furrows his brows as shadows crawl up his arms, writhing at his command. Can he feel his magic inside him the way I can or is it different? And what about Raven? Her power is her strength and weapons.
Will they even be able to do it? What if it’s something only I can do because of my father?
“How do we know if it will actually work?” Raven asks.
“Were you able to direct your magic?” I shuffle my feet.
“Yeah, I imagined a huge brick wall around my mind and I think it will work, but I don’t want to test it.” Raven shudders.
“I don’t blame you. That was terrifying. Like scarier than Typhon.” I shudder. “I had no control of my body or my voice.”
I glance over at Jayden with an apology on my lips. He tried to kiss me out of it, but it didn’t work. She had complete control.
Is that what Dax is going through right now? Is he in there trying to understand what the hell is happening to him?
I widen my eyes. “We need to hurry up and get the other students back.”
“Let’s go check the admin building for any clues,” Raven says.
Jayden squeezes me to him as we all turn back to the admin building. “Do you really think if someone did this on campus they would leave behind any clues?”
“It’s not likely, but we could still check. We didn’t know that Hecate was on campus, snatching Hermes students and drying up Cross’ lake.” I shrug.
“Are we even sure that was all Hecate anymore?” Raven frowns. “We thought she was behind everything, but there’s no way she’s doing this from Tartarus.”
“You’re right. If Ares’ power weakened on Earth when he hung out in the underworld, there’s no way she can do this shit from there.” I scoot closer to Jayden.
“We know even less than we did before,” Raven says.
“It’s really stupid that we continue to go on these quests but each time we only have more questions than answers. Who is trying to overthrow Zeus and why?” I run a shaky hand through my hair.
Could someone have snuck on campus or do we have a traitor in our midst?
“I don’t like the options here, but at least we are safe from mind control,” Jayden says.
“Wethinkyou’re safe.”
Jayden opens the door to the admin building and we all walk through. It’s just as silent and empty as before.
“I hate this place,” I grumble.
“Let’s just hurry up and check the conference room.” Raven shudders.
We rush through the halls to the conference rooms and my spine stiffens as we get close. Why is it always outside the damn conference rooms where weird shit happens?
