“Beth, let’s not attack any more students and lock them in chains before you go.” Rebecca’s tone is stern.
“They’re taking our warriors, Rebecca. We have to be vigilant. They may be planning to attack the academy with our own students.” I turn the knob, ready to leave.
Rebecca curses and I turn wide eyes on Jayden. I have never heard the woman swear before.
“Go. I’ll keep contacting the oracle until he answers. We need to find out who keeps doing this and put an end to it,” Rebecca says.
I nod and pull the door open. This is fucking bad. Why would the oracle be unwilling to assist us? It doesn’t make any sense.
“It would have been so much better if it really had been Hecate,” I grumble.
Jayden squeezes my hand. “We’ll figure this out.”
“But will it be too late?” I ask and lean my head on his shoulder as we walk down the empty hall.
“No, we’ll get Ares’ shield back and stop the next world war. We will get there in time.” Jayden wraps an arm around me.
“I hope so. What if they are planning on attacking the academy with our own students? Who the fuck is behind this?”
“I really wish it would have ended with Hecate going to Tartarus.” Jayden runs a hand through his hair.
“We were naïve to think it was over after that. Hecate isn’t strong enough to even think of overthrowing Zeus. Who is strong enough, though? It can’t be a titan because they are all in their prisons.”
“Could it be a titan sympathizer?” Jayden asks with a frown.
“It could be, but they were all given their own punishments after the war, weren’t they?” I scratch my head.
“They were but I don’t think anyone checks that they are still locked in their punishments.”
“Whoever it is, they are seriously pissing me off. Can’t we catch a break? I didn’t think coming to the academy would be a constant struggle.” I blow out a frustrated breath.
When we get close to the conference room where we heard the strange voice, I stumble and a sick feeling crashes through me.
“Beth?” Jayden’s arm tightens around me.
The room spins and I stumble again. What the hell is going on?
Get away from them. Get away from the academy. You have to go.
I shake my head to clear it of the foreign voice. What the hell is going on?
“I got this weird feeling. I don’t really feel great.” I lean against the wall and close my eyes.
I need to get out of here. There’s somewhere I have to be. Straightening my spine, I take a step toward the door at the end of the hall.
“Beth,” Jayden grabs my hand and I tug it away from him.
Hurt fills his eyes but my body betrays me, and I turn away from him.
Raven steps in front of me with a concerned frown. “Beth, what’s wrong? Where are you going?”
“Away, I have to get away.” The words tumble from my mouth without my consent.
“Away from where, Beth? You’re scaring me.” Raven reaches for me and I dodge her.
Fuck, am I being controlled? Who’s doing this?
“Away from here.” I bat her hands away.
