Raven elbows him in the gut and he grunts before rubbing his stomach.
“Gods, Raven. You need to get a handle on your strength.”
“Stop being a dick, then. You want him to back off as much as she does.” Raven plants her hands on her hips.
“You’re all distracted easily.” Kira steps into the circle. “It’s not nice to whisper.”
“Sorry,” I say, glancing between her and Dax. “I didn’t know that you knew Dax.”
“It’s not a huge school.” Kira giggles and shakes her head. “The gods don’t mix with mortals as much as they did in ancient times.”
“You like him,” Raven blurts.
I elbow her in the side and narrow my eyes on her. Kira blushes and glances at him with a sad smile.
“It doesn’t matter. He doesn’t like me.” Kira shrugs.
Guilt gnaws at me. She would be exactly Dax’s type if it weren’t for me. If I hadn’t shown up at the academy, would they have gotten together?
“Don’t do that, B,” Raven says, nudging me. “It’s not your fault.”
“Isn’t it, though? He has this weird obsession with me.”
“Remember what he told Draven last night? He knows you’re going to choose Jayden so he’s giving up.” Raven hops up onto the cot behind her. “We can totally set them up.”
“What?” Kira asks, shaking her head and backing away.
“I mean, obviously not now with the invasion of the body snatchers but once we get back, we totally can make it happen.”
Jayden stares at me with wide eyes. “Are you sure that’s wise?”
“It can’t hurt.” I shrug one shoulder and hop on the cot next to Raven.
“P-please don’t,” Kira stutters but glances over at Dax with longing.
“We won’t be obvious about it. Maybe we can find an Aphrodite girl to give you a little makeover or something,” Raven says.
“Not Mia.” I shudder.
Jayden grabs my hand. “I know you want to help, but she looks like she’s about to pass out.”
“Kira, you don’t have to. Just think about it.” I grin at her.
Her brows pinch down in doubt, but she finally nods, and I can’t help the squeal that escapes. Could it be this easy to get Dax to stop pining for me? I hope so.
Kira is gorgeous. She would be even prettier if she let her dark-blond hair down.
Adrian shakes his head. “If you’re all done talking about Dax’s love life, we have things to discuss.”
“Killjoy,” I grumble.
“We do kind of have a world to save… again.”
Shit. He’s right. We need to get the students back and find Ares’ shield before nuclear war destroys everything.
“Okay, so what should we do now that he’s locked down tight?” I ask Adrian.
“We need to tell Rebecca what’s happening and about the message from Ares.” Adrian frowns.
