I lean my head on Jayden’s uninjured shoulder and a yawn rips through me. I’m exhausted. “Yes, send the hunters after you send us back. I need to sleep for like a week.”
“You can sleep after your gift.” Ares grins and it’s so disarming my brain short-circuits for a second.
“Gift?” I ask.
I lift my head from Jayden’s shoulder when Ares chuckles.
“Of course. Like I said you all have done me a great service and I always pay what is owed.” Ares holds out a hand and a small black box appears there.
I pick up the box, furrowing my brow. “I didn’t do it for gifts. I did it so the world didn’t end.”
“And that is why you should have this.” Ares taps the box.
Blowing out a breath, I open the box to see a small charm like the other two. It is an exact replica of the one on Ares’ back. It’s the same god metal that my whip and the lightning bolt necklace are made of and glitters in the bright sun.
“Thank you.” I bow my head to him.
“Don’t you want to know what it does, little sister?” Ares asks.
“Of course.”
“You will be as good with weapons as any of my children, and it will also give you a place to store your sword when you don’t have need of it.” Ares reaches for the charm and waves a hand.
I glance down, finding the charm sitting on my necklace next to the one Hades gave me.
So I guess this is a thing now. I’m just going to keep collecting charms from the gods I help. Cool.
“Raven, you have more weapons than you know what to do with.” Ares narrows his eyes on her.
“Yes, and I just got a new one from Claud. It’s brilliant,” Raven gushes.
“Would you like to see what I’ve brought you?”
“Yes,” Raven shouts.
“This bracelet came from Aphrodite. It will help you to change your appearance should you need to for any reason. It can come in handy for scouting.” He adds the last part when he notices the disgusted expression on her face.
“That is wicked, Raven. You could spy on our enemies with that.” I nudge her.
“Thanks, Dad. That is pretty cool.” Raven puts the bangle on her wrist.
Ares turns to the guys. He raises an eyebrow at Jayden’s arm around my waist but thankfully doesn’t comment this time.
Thank fates because I really don’t want to go through that bullshit with Jayden again.
“Since you all go into the human world a lot and my daughter may not always be around to store items in the ether for you, I have brought you these.” He hands each of the guys a watch made from god metal.
“Thank you, Lord Ares,” Jayden says and dips his head.
“Turn the face clockwise and it will store your items for you and counterclockwise to retrieve them,” Ares instructs.
The guys all murmur thank you to Ares for the amazing gifts, but he waves them off. “You are our greatest champions. We should make your lives easier if we can.”
“These are amazing gifts, Ares. We appreciate it.”
“But you want me to send you back now, right?”
I nod and brace myself for god travel that always makes me a little queasy. I squeeze my eyes closed as he sends us spinning through space until my feet land on soft grass. I sway a little but Jayden’s arm around me steadies me.
