“We have Adrian, though.” I glance between everyone but there is no hope in this office.
“Adrian isn’t strong enough. He sees plenty but he’s not an oracle,” Rebecca says.
“I still like our chances at success with Adrian,” I say.
If the oracle isn’t going to help, then Adrian is the best we have. Why wouldn’t the oracle help though?
Is he a part of this? Why warn us before if he was going to end up on the other side of this?
“Maybe he’s just busy. You haven’t had to consult him as much as you have in the last few weeks.” I shrug.
“I hope that’s the case because I don’t want to think about going into a war without him on our side.” Rebecca clasps her hands together.
“Let’s not borrow trouble; we have enough as it is,” I say.
“You’re right, Beth. We will cross that bridge when we come to it.”
“Any idea who can actually use mind control?” I ask.
I shudder at the thought of someone being able to control my mind. They could literally make me do anything.
I don’t like it for anyone. Who is doing this and what are they doing with the students that they’re controlling?
“Several ancient sorceresses were said to have the power to control men, but at the time it was said that they just had powers of seduction, not necessarily the power to control their minds,” Rebecca says.
Well, shit. If it was just powers of seduction, then it could be anyone. I glance at Jayden with a grimace.
I really hope Circe had nothing to do with this. Are the male demigods who are being controlled being turned into pigs?
“We need to get an idea of who’s doing this,” I say thoughtfully.
Raven rubs her hands together. “It could be anyone. What if it’s not even someone from ancient times?”
“I don’t know, but I would rather be prepared.” I push myself up off the couch and glance around.
Raven pops up and bounds to me and the three of us leave Rebecca’s office.
“I think we should check the book,” I say.
“Book?” Jayden asks with a raised brow.
“You know the book Cross let us borrow before we went to the underworld?”
I’d almost forgot about it myself. That book is dangerous. In the wrong hands it could cause the end of the Olympians as we know it and that’s exactly what we are trying to stop.
“You think that book will give us more information on whoever is doing this?” Jayden asks skeptically.
“You don’t? You saw what was in there.” I scowl over my shoulder at him.
“I don’t know for sure what we will find in there.”
He’s not wrong. Dread sits like lead in my gut even thinking about gaining the knowledge in that book.
Jayden opens the door for us and I step through into the late afternoon sun.
“Maybe we should wait until we have more information.” Jayden reaches for my wrist, stopping me in my tracks. “We could waste hours researching and then be completely wrong.”
“Maybe you’re right. It’s never who we think it’s going to be.”
