This is going to take a ton of concentration to move the clouds and rain into a circle that big. Closing my eyes, I concentrate on the buzzing under my skin, directing it to the clouds.
“It’s working,” Jayden whispers.
The warmth of the sun hits my wet face as I continue concentrating on the clouds and holding them in place until the trenches are filled with water.
“Fuck,” I gasp as I’m shoved to the ground.
I blink my eyes open and stare at the blue sky above me for a second before rolling up to my feet.
“Sorry,” Jayden says. “They were about to trample you. They don’t like being trapped.”
The giant horse turns in a circle before charging us again. The rest of the clouds dissipate from the sky, only filling the trenches halfway but still seem to be keeping them corralled.
“What do we do now?” I shout to Raven.
She’s swinging her ax in a circle around her, trying to fend off the flesh-eating bastards.
“Maybe we should do what we did with Spot?” she asks.
“If you think I’m touching one of those disgusting bones, you’ve lost your mind,” I shout back to her.
I throw out a hand and shadows build a wall in front of us the same time as electricity zaps out, hitting the demon horse in the chest. Fire pours from its jaws but the shadow wall stops them, but not the heat from enveloping us.
“Where is Artemis?” Jayden yells. “Trapping them is fine but we need to kill them.”
Greyson’s wolf snarls as it jumps in front of Raven. The mares back away from the wolf, whinnying fearfully and stomping their hooves.
“They’re scared of Greyson. We need Artemis’ lion and wolves.” I scan the area but there’s still no sign of the goddess.
Where the hell did she go?
“I went to make this.” Artemis pops up right beside me.
I clutch my hand to my chest, startled at her sudden appearance.
“What is it?” I ask, staring at the curved object.
It shines like the bulls’ horns but looks nothing like them. It has a serrated edge to it that makes it seem like a knife, but there’s also a long stick extended from it.
“It’s a scimitar.” She shrugs and hands it to me.
“We need your wild animals. They’re scared of Greyson.” I point to the two that Greyson is corralling by snapping his jaws at them.
“No, he needs to stop.” Artemis races in front of Greyson.
“What? What do you mean?” I shout.
What the fuck is going to happen to Greyson if his wolf bites one of them?
Heat envelops me and I swing the weird scimitar with everything I have. With the wrong side. It hits the mare in the head and bounces off harmlessly.
Shit. I turn the thing around as the horse rears up to kick me. I swing it again and blood gushes from its underbelly in a spray.
Even their blood smells rancid. Disgusting.
“Artemis,” I shout. “Can your hunters do this without hurting themselves? Specifically your lions?”
“Yes, they are immortal as long as they serve me,” Artemis says and pulls her bow from thin air.
