I slap the card on the counter and the sound rings out through the lobby, turning heads. Her eyes go bug-wide and she stutters as she glances at the card. “I-I’m sorry. I can get that for you.”

“No, I don’t think you can, sweetie.I want to speak to your manager.” I smile sweetly.

An older man walks up behind her and frowns. “Milly, is there a problem?”

“Yes, they want a suite and I’m pretty sure their card is stolen.” Milly sneers at me.

“Are you serious right now? You were completely rude to me as you did your best to flirt with him and now you’re trying to cover it up by calling me a criminal?” I reach in my pocket and pull out my ID.

The manager picks up the black card with wide eyes and inspects my identification along with the card and scowls at Milly.

“Go to my office, Milly. There is a fine line between being polite to our male guests and trying to pick them up.” She glares at me as she walks away, doing as her manager says. “My apologies, miss. We don’t condone that behavior. I will get you the keys to your suite.”

“It didn’t have to get ugly like that. She treated me like I was trash and couldn’t afford the room I was asking for.” I flip my hair over my shoulder.

Steam practically comes out of the man’s ears when I say that. Is Milly about to get fired? One can only hope. Stupid bitch.

Jayden wraps an arm around me and squeezes my hip.

“I am truly sorry for any upset my employee has caused. How many nights will you be staying with us?” he asks.

“Just tonight, please.” I lean into Jayden’s shoulder as the man types something into the keyboard.

He swipes the keycards and hands them to me along with my ID and the black credit card. “Have a nice stay. I have room service bringing you some things as an apology for the rudeness you experienced. I promise it won’t happen again.”

“Thank you,” I say, never one to turn down free food except in the underworld.

We walk back to our friends. Jayden pulls me to his side. “Did that seem over the top to you?”

“It did. I’m afraid of what that means. It’s getting worse and I don’t even know how we’re going to stop it in time.” I lay my head on his shoulder.

If humans are already acting crazy and the world war is on the horizon, how are we going to stop it? We need to get Ares’ shield, but where is our fucking ally?

“We need to call her,” I say, stabbing at the button to the elevator repeatedly.

“Calm down, B.” Raven pats my shoulder. “What happened?”

“I’ll tell you when we get to the suite.” I glance around the crowded lobby.

People are still staring at me, the scene we caused still fresh in everyone’s minds. I need to get out of here, but the damn elevator is taking too long.

The doors finally open and people pour out. As soon as they’re out, I rush inside and wait patiently until the others are inside, then stab the button for the eighteenth floor.

“Beth?” Jayden asks and pulls my back into his chest.

“Sorry, people were staring and making me jumpy. Did you see the TV above the bar at dinner? It’s getting worse.”

“I know, but we have to be smart about this.” Jayden rests his chin on my shoulder.

Draven huffs and I turn my glare on him. “Do you have something to say?”

“It’s just funny hearing the prince of darkness talk about being smart.” Draven shakes his head, but a second later he coughs and glares at Raven.

“You really shouldn’t stand so close to me. When I smell asshole, my arm twitches. It can be hazardous.” Raven elbows him in the gut and he doubles over wheezing.

I can’t help the bubble of laughter that escapes.
