Greyson hefts the bulls’ horns into the back of the SUV.
“What are you doing with those?” I ask.
I don’t understand why the bulls turned to dust but left the horns behind. No monster has ever done that before when we defeated them, so why these ones?
“They’re trophies. You defeated the bulls so you keep their horns.” Greyson slams the hatch on the SUV.
“Is that a wolf thing?” I ask with a frown.
“It’s a hunter thing.”
“It’s still freaking weird.” I huff out a laugh.
“You haven’t even heard of that, Raven?” Greyson asks.
“Um, no. I’m a weapons expert, but I don’t kill for sport.” She crosses her arms.
Greyson wraps his arms around her, but she pulls away.
Just because she’s good with weapons doesn’t mean she goes out and kills unless it’s monsters or demons. That she does with a grin.
“I don’t appreciate the stereotype, babe.” Raven pulls open the back door of the SUV and hops inside.
“What did I do?” Greyson clenches his fists at his sides.
“You didn’t know.” I turn to find Jayden holding my door for me.
Randall jogs up next to us and sighs. “I’m sorry I was an ass. You just remind me of my own cubs and it was a little crazy to think you could do this.”
“It’s fine,” I grumble.
“We owe you a debt. If you’re ever in need of our help, just have Greyson call and my pack will be there.” Randall holds his hand out to me and I shake his hand tentatively.
“Thank you. We may have to take you up on that one day.” I chew my lip.
With the war on the horizon, we may need all the help we can get. And if we can’t find Ares’ shield and the mind-controlled students, that day may come sooner than any of us want.
I step into the SUV and Jayden shuts the door behind me before rounding the vehicle and hopping into the driver’s seat.
“Where do we need to go?” Jayden asks.
“Artemis said she would meet us in Denver.” I buckle my seat belt.
It doesn’t take as long to get to Denver as it did to get to Grand Junction from Vegas and thankfully the SUV is quiet most of the drive.
“Beth,” Adrian calls from the back. “Snacks.”
“Oh yeah, sorry.” I rummage through my bag, pulling out a bag of chips and tossing it back to Adrian.
Jayden shakes his head. “We’re literally going to be there in an hour. You can’t wait for food?”
I smack Jayden’s arm lightly. “He used a lot of magic to heal me. Be nice.”
“You’re right. Sorry, Adrian.” Jayden’s hand tightens on my thigh.
“No problem,” Adrian calls through a mouthful of chips.
We pull into the posh hotel parking lot but the only way to park is with the valet. All other parking places are blocked off from the road.
