“I promise, we will be safe as we can be.” I pull away from him and follow the others into the cavern.

As we push open the door and walk back outside into the cooler mountain air, I breathe a sigh of relief. The breeze ruffles my hair and the sweat instantly cools against my skin.

Jayden reaches for my hand as we walk through the trees to the parking lot and I scan the area. “Has anyone seen Draven?”

Adrian nods. “He’s waiting by the car.”

Jayden’s shoulders stiffen and he rolls them back, probably preparing for whatever battle we are facing with Draven when we get there.

“Maybe he won’t be an ass,” I whisper to Jayden.

Jayden glances at me with a raised brow. “I’m not sure if he even knows how not to be an asshole.”

“True.” I sigh.

I shouldn’t get my hopes up that the guy will suddenly be a nice guy and not an entitled dickhead.

We get to the car and Draven is leaning against it with an impatient scowl. “Where have you guys been? I have been waiting here forever.”

“We had some things to take care of,” I brush him off and walk with Jayden to the trunk.

He pops open the trunk and stows his bag there, but I grab mine before he can put it in there too. Jayden furrows his brows.

“Snacks and medical supplies. I don’t want to take a chance.” I throw the duffel over my shoulder as the others put their bags in the trunk with Jayden’s.

There have been too many times we’ve needed medical supplies and hadn’t had them immediately available in the car. I refuse to put them in the trunk and take a chance of someone dying because we are running for our lives.

Jayden slams the trunk and tugs me to the front door of the car, but Draven is there, tugging on the door handle.

“What are you doing?” Jayden growls.

“Waiting for you to unlock the door so I can get in,” Draven snarls.

“You’re not sitting in the front of my car,” Jayden says through gritted teeth.

“Yes, I am.” Draven plants his feet and crosses his arms over his chest.

Raven rolls her eyes dramatically. “This is really going to be a fun trip.”

“It’s not supposed to be fun.”

“It was sarcasm, B. These two are going to end up killing each other.” Raven leans up against the car.

“I know it was sarcasm. I wish he would just stop. No one even wants him here.” I squeeze Jayden’s hand. “We need to go. Draven, get in the back.”

“No. Why should I get in the back?” Draven crosses his arms over his chest.

Jayden steps into Draven’s personal space. “Because it’s my car and I’m driving it, so you do as I say.”

“This is just another one of your stupid power trips. Open the fucking door so we can go,” Draven snaps.

I turn to glare at Adrian on the driver’s side of the car. “Are you absolutely certain that we can’t do this without him?”

“I’ve told you ten times, Beth. If he doesn’t go, we fail.” Adrian huffs.

I tug on Jayden’s arm, about to tell him to forget it and let the big entitled baby sit in the front, when Raven stands up straighter with her hands balled into fists at her sides.

“Hey, fuckwit, get in the back,” Raven growls.
