“When there’s mind control involved, you have no idea who you can trust.”
“She’s right.” Jayden sighs. “Every person in the admin building is a suspect. No matter how unlikely they seem to be.”
“And we just told Rebecca everything. Shit.”
I can’t believe that the headmistress would be a part of this, but Jayden is right. Everyone in that building is a suspect.
“We have been saying that we need to be careful who we talk to about this. That just includes professors and admins now, as well.” Jayden nods.
“That doesn’t explain why Cross wanted us out of the admin building. I don’t think it’s some sinister plot.”
“Me neither,” Jayden agrees.
“What does he think we’re going to do in the conference rooms?” I whisper.
“Maybe they have some secrets stored in the admin building they don’t want us to know.” Jayden shrugs.
“Maybe?” Raven scoffs. “They most definitely have secrets.”
“We don’t give a shit about their secrets unless they are a danger to the academy.” I stomp across the quad, the others following close behind.
“We know that, but Cross is definitely hiding something.” Raven loops her arm through mine.
Jayden jogs up beside me and opens the door to the cafeteria. I smile back at him as I stroll inside.
The smile drops when Draven steps in front of me, blocking my way.
“Hey, Beth,” Draven says and reaches for me.
I sidestep him easily. A growl sounds behind me. Jayden’s eyes swirl with black.
“Jayden, stop. It’s okay.” I hold out a hand for him.
Jayden cocks his head to the side, his eyes still swirling with shadows, but he grasps my offered hand. I tug him past Draven to the buffet line and release his hand to grab a tray.
I don’t turn around at Draven’s angry comments. He doesn’t matter.
“I just want to talk to you, Beth,” Draven shouts and all eyes in the cafeteria turn in his direction.
Several pair of eyes burn into my back with curiosity, but I ignore them too.
“Let’s just eat. We can figure everything else out after.” I grab a slice of combination pizza and place it on my plate.
The food here is probably one of the best parts of the academy. The harpies can cook almost anything. It’s actually quite surprising considering they are basically bird women.
I grab several other plates, including a plate of hot wings, and we make our way to the Zeus table to eat, hopefully, in peace away from Draven.
I can’t handle his snide comments right now. I have no idea how we are going to complete this mission without killing the idiot.
A hand lands on my arm and I groan. So much for peace.
“I just want to talk,” Draven says.
“What do you want to talk about, Draven? How much better you are than everyone else and how youdeservemy attention?” I yank my arm away from his grasp.
“I just don’t understand,” he yells.
“You’re causing a scene and I have had enough of your bullshit.” I slam my tray down on the table and turn to him crossing my arms over my chest.
