“How did you… never mind.” I tap my head and salute him.

I turn to Dax and find the shadow chains replaced by the gold chains Claud made. He’s still thrashing slightly but it looks like they’ll hold. Thank the gods.

“Let’s go track her down, then. Thanks again, Kira. Tell Max thanks too, please.” I nod to the girl who is still slightly flushed.

“I’ll tell him,” she says and scurries out of the room ahead of us.

“Did we embarrass her?” Guilt claws at me.

My intention wasn’t to embarrass her. I just wanted to help.

“She’ll be fine.” Raven waves me off and rushes from the room.

We need to find Rebecca and hope to the gods it’s not as hard as the last time.

The sun peeks through the storm clouds as we walk out the door. The rain has stopped, thankfully, but I don’t expect it to stay dry for long.

“Let’s try her office first,” I say and head to the admin building.

“She’s never there,” Raven grumbles.

“I’m starving.” Jayden rubs his stomach. “Maybe we should eat first.”

I wrap my arm around his waist and kiss his cheek. “We’ll eat after we talk to her. Promise.”

“I used a ton of magic to keep him there for that long.” His stomach takes that moment to gurgle loudly.

“This is super important, but if you really need to eat, we can go without you.” I chew my lip.

“No. I’ll survive a while longer.” Jayden squeezes me to him as we stride up the steps of the admin building.

“Why is this place always so creepy?” I ask with a shudder.

“That’s probably so students won’t wander in and bother the teachers.” Jayden chuckles.

“That’s not funny. We have a valid reason for being here.” I shoulder check him.

“I’m not saying we don’t, but I think the creepiness is by design.” Jayden shrugs one shoulder.

“You’re probably right. They get enough of us in class without us coming to their offices after hours.”

We turn the corner and walk up to Rebecca’s door. I knock loudly, not expecting her to actually be there. She’s almost never there when we need her.

“Come in,” her tired voice comes through the door.

I turn to the others with raised brows as I turn the door handle. We all spill into Rebecca’s office, and she sits back with a sigh.

“What’s happened?” she asks.

“What hasn’t happened?” I chuckle.

“Have a seat.” She sighs and rubs her forehead.

I sit on the couch this time and Jayden grins as he takes the seat beside me in the middle. Raven and Adrian take the armchairs as they all look to me to explain.

Thanks, guys. Why do I always have to explain things? Adrian knows more than I do with his visions.

“Dax is being controlled,” I grumble.
