Jayden shoots me a glare over his shoulder, and I blow him a kiss.
“Ugh,” Draven groans from behind me.
Shit, I forgot he was there.
I roll my eyes dramatically at Raven and she shakes her head. I’m tired of that asshole. He needs to make himself useful or go the fuck away.
We finally break through the trees and luckily the sun is shining overhead and the clouds have disappeared. There’s no chance of the rain waking Dax.
“What the hell does this guy eat?” Jayden grumbles as we get to the quad.
I breathe out a relieved breath when the Greek columns and gothic architecture come into view.
We are almost to the healers, but then what? Will the healers be able to help him, or will we have to find a place to stash him until we stop this person?
Students sit in groups along the quad, but all chatter dies when they see our group. Whispers meet my ears and a couple students guess right on the nose.
Just like Mitchell.
“He’s solid muscle and heavy.” Adrian adjusts Dax’s weight awkwardly.
“We need to get inside before we freak everyone out,” I mutter.
Raven glances around at the students with a frown. “They’re going to panic.”
I run forward and grip the door handle, opening it for the guys to step through. They stumble inside and drop Dax on a cot still wrapped in shadow chains.
“What is the meaning of this?” The healer bustles forward.
“He’s being controlled. We had to do something to stop him from leaving the academy until we could get useful help.” I shoot a glare at Draven.
Draven hangs his head. Am I being unreasonable? Probably but his smug ass needs to be taken down a peg or twelve.
“What happened?” the healer asks, pushing his glasses down his nose. “You’re injured again.”
“Don’t worry about me. Is there anything you can do to get rid of the mind control on Dax?” I point to Dax.
He’s the reason we’re here, not my busted ribs. When Dax is out of this, he’s going to be pissed at himself for hurting me.
I know him and even though he’s seemed to accept me and Jayden, he still won’t be happy that he hurt me.
“What happened?” the healer repeats his question, rubbing at his temples.
“He’s been controlled. He tried to leave the wards and we stopped him by any means necessary.” Raven shuffles her feet.
“Why didn’t you let him go if that’s what he wants?” the healer asks, confused.
“Because that isn’t Dax,” I say. “Whoever mind-controlled him tried to kill me several times.”
“Are you sure?” the healer asks, moving closer to Dax.
“Be careful. He could wake up at any time.” I step closer to the healer.
I would hate for the healer to get injured trying to save Dax. He’s helped me out so many times in the last few months.
The healer places his hands on Dax’s head and they glow with his healing magic. His brows furrow as he works, but soon he glances up at me.
“I don’t sense any magic in his mind.” The healer shakes his head and backs away. “It’s not right to hold him here against his will if he really wants to leave.”
