“Why?” I whine.
“Because I need to know what Mia did and why.” She raises a brow at me.
My shoulders slump in defeat and I glance at Jayden under my lashes. I don’t want to be a tattletale. I want to meet her one-on-one. I need to prove that if she hadn’t rushed me without warning, I could have taken the simpering idiot on my own.
Jayden takes pity on me. “Mia is a bit obsessed with me and she flew into a rage when she saw Beth and me holding hands.”
“She tackled me and didn’t fight me like a demigod because she knew she couldn’t take me down otherwise.” I jump from the cot and stand next to Jayden.
“Are you good?” he asks me warily.
“All good.” I grin. “Are we done here, Rebecca?”
“I wish you would change your mind about punishment,” Rebecca says.
“No, I don’t want to be the reason anyone dies at the hands of the monsters.” I shake my head and grab Jayden’s hand to tug him out of the healer’s office.
“Fine,” Rebecca says with a sigh. “I understand. I’ll come up with a fitting punishment for her. Hopefully Aphrodite won’t smite me.”
“If she does, that’s bullshit because her daughter is insane,” I say and stare at the ceiling.
I hope the goddess of love and beauty hears me. She should have made sure her daughter wasn’t an entitled little bitch.
“Beth,” Jayden says with a groan. “Do we really want vengeful goddesses coming after us?”
“Her mom is already after me so what’s the difference?” I ask with a shrug.
“Shh, we don’t talk about her,” he whispers close to my ear.
“C’mon, we need to find Raven and Adrian and figure out a plan to find the missing students.” I pull at Jayden’s hand and drag him to the door, hoping Rebecca won’t pick up on that until we are long gone.
“Wait,” Rebecca calls out behind us and my shoulders slump. “What are you talking about?”
“Can we tell you when we have more information?” I ask hopefully.
Rebecca narrows her eyes at me but nods firmly. Thank the gods for small favors. We need to figure something out.
I tug Jayden out the door and find Raven standing outside, her arms crossed over her chest. “Where are you going?”
“To find you and then the shower.” I grimace as I reach up and feel my hair crunch under my fingers.
“Maybe shower first.” Raven chuckles as she loops my arm with hers.
“I was hoping for that but sometimes you’re kind of scary when you’re determined,” I say with a chuckle.
“No more concussion?” she asks, and I shake my head.
“Nope. Thankfully, the healer could fix it with his own magic.”
“Good. That elixir shit is scary as fuck.” Raven shivers.
She’s not wrong but it has saved us all a few times. Though I’m grateful I didn’t need it today.
I had it last night and I don’t want to get addicted to the feeling of it.
We race across the quad, and I ignore the stares of the other students. My hair is caked in blood and all I want is to get this shit out of my hair.
I take the stairs to the twelfth floor two at a time to get to my room quicker. The healing has put more energy into my body.
