I glance at the healer, who nods in agreement with Rebecca, and I hop off the gurney.
Jayden grips my hand as we leave the healer’s office and the cool mountain air kisses my skin.
The stars twinkle in the cloudless sky, and I breathe in the scent of pine and Jayden.
“Hey, guys,” Raven calls from behind us.
I turn to find Adrian stopped and his eyes are clouded over with a vision. We walk back to where they stopped and wait for Adrian. I hope it’s something we can use to find the other students.
“Ugh,” Adrian says as his eyes clear. “You’re not going to like this.”
“What is it?” I ask, shuffling my feet.
“I had a vision.”
“We are very much aware of what happens when you have a vision, Adrian.” Raven throws up her hands.
She’s not wrong. We have seen his eyes go blank many times over the last month. He almost never tells us what the visions are though.
“What am I not going to like?” I ask.
“We have a mission to find the mind-controlled students,” Adrian says.
“Good, I was planning on going in search of them anyway. What’s the problem?”
Adrian peers between me and Jayden with a grimace. “Draven has to come with us.”
“Fuck that,” Jayden growls. “Not that asshole. No.”
“He’s the only one with the magical ability to stop the mind control. No other Hermes descendent has his skill,” Adrian argues.
“He nearly killed Beth tonight,” Jayden bellows.
“Jayden, I’m fine. We will just have to keep an eye on him. If Adrian’s vision says he has to be there, then we can’t risk it.”
Jayden turns his glare on me before spinning on his heel and storming off.
Well, fuck.
“Jayden?” I call after him, but he ignores me.
I move to follow him, but Raven grabs my arm.
“He needs to cool off, B. Let’s go talk to Draven.”
“Yeah, I’m not going anywhere near that guy right now. Are you serious? He’s drunk. I doubt he will even remember this in the morning.” I shake my head.
“You’re probably right,” Raven says.
I turn and stomp to the dorms. I don’t give a shit what Raven says. I need to have a chat with Jayden. I need to find out what the fuck is up with him.
Maybe I can finally get him to stop listening to what other people think and just be together.
I glance at Raven over my shoulder. “I have no intention of being there when the two of you tell him we have to go find the students.”
“Fine. I get it. Go talk your boyfriend off the ledge,” Raven shouts at my back.
“He’s not my boyfriend,” I yell back at her.
