“I’m a demigod, Mother. But you already knew that. I have to stop the Titans from rising or it won’t matter who’s stuck here because everything will be destroyed.” I shake my head and turn my back on her.

“C’mon, Beth. They aren’t going to tell us anything.” Jayden wraps me up in his arms and leads me away.

Raven catches up to us on my other side and threads her arm through mine.

“You okay, B?” she asks, bumping me with her shoulder.

“I have to be okay; there is no other option,” I say, my voice hollow.

“That’s not fair or healthy.” Raven shakes her head.

She’s not wrong, but we have bigger things to worry about than me missing my mom. She was right there in front of me, and I couldn’t bring myself to say everything I had always wanted to say.

If I had been able to, then I would not want to leave. I have to fucking leave. It’s harsh and was probably cruel to interrupt her afterlife the way we did, but I’m glad to know she’s in Elysium and not suffering.

“It is what it is. Let’s just focus on finding the prophetess and getting the fuck out of here,” I say, rolling my shoulders back.

I need to focus on one thing at a time. I can break down again after we save the world from the Titans.

There is one good thing that came from seeing my mother here; the fog has lifted from my brain. I see this place for what it is and not what it could be if I stay here.

“There aren’t any other people around,” I say, scanning the huge houses that line the path.

Jayden sighs. “I don’t know that we need anyone else.”

“Why not?” I ask with a frown.

“They said it was too far for the living to go,” he grumbles. “The only place I can think of is the Isles of the Blessed.”

It makes sense if she worked with the gods during her life that she would be honored in that way.

“How long of a walk are we talking, Jayden?” I ask, chewing my lip.

“It’s about a day’s walk at the other end of Elysium. It’s going to be tough.” He squeezes my waist a little tighter.

“A day? Shit. That’s two days walking if we have to leave from her house and get out of Elysium, Jayden. We are already on a horrible timeline.” I shake my head.

Raven’s eyes widen as she stares between us. “We have to be strong. There’s not much choice here.”

Adrian reaches out a hand to Raven to steady himself. Raven jumps into action, grabbing his limp form before he hits the ground.

Adrian’s eyes are the creepy white they get when he is having a vision.

“This is going to slow us down,” Raven mutters as she slowly lowers him to the ground.

“Not if he sees something helpful this time.” I crouch in front of him, staring at his unseeing eyes.

Jayden rubs my back in soothing circles, and I peer up at him with a grateful smile. He was my rock, letting me fall apart for just a moment.

Maybe we can be good together, but I need to focus on the task at hand. Jayden’s just trying to get us out of Elysium intact.

Adrian groans as he rolls to his side. “Fuck, that was unexpected.”

“What did you see?” I ask, reaching out to help him sit up.

“I know how to get to the prophetess, but there are going to be problems along the way,” Adrian says, rubbing at his forehead.

“Is anything ever easy?” I grumble.
