“Let’s play fetch with Fido and get the hell out of here,” Raven says, waving the leg bone around.
“Raven, where did you get that?” Jayden asks with a raised brow.
“It was just lying around, why?” Raven asks with a frown.
She looks at the bone in her hand and her eyes widen. “What the fuck, Adrian? Why did you let me pick up a human bone?”
“You’re stubborn and wouldn’t listen when I tried.” Adrian throws his hands up in the air in frustration.
“Uh, Raven? I wouldn’t be waving that thing around like that,” I say, eyeing the devil dog.
All three heads are following the bone’s movement. His tail is wagging even more, and he’s crouched, ready to pounce.
Raven launches the bone with a shriek of disgust, but she throws it the wrong way. Right to the gate.
“Fuck, Raven.” Jayden runs a hand through his hair. “You threw it at the gate.”
“It was a fucking human bone. I wasn’t paying attention to where I threw it. I just wanted it out of my hand.” She shudders, wiping her hands on her pants.
The dog barks happily before running back to us. The middle head drops the bone, and a big dopey smile crosses his face and his tongue lolls out of his mouth.
The bone is covered in drool and I grimace, waving for Raven to pick it up and throw it again.
“Hell no, you do it. I already touched that thing once.” Raven shakes her head, putting her hands up in surrender.
“You are the strongest of us. You can throw it the farthest,” I say.
Cerberus whines again, all six eyes pleading with us to play with him.
Poor guy, he just wants to play.
“Fine,” Raven grumbles.
She struts over to the human bone covered in drool and grimaces. “This is disgusting.”
“Everyone get ready to run.” I bounce on the balls of my feet.
Raven peers over her shoulder at me before picking up the bone and tossing it as hard as she can in the opposite direction.
“Run,” I shout.
We all take off for the gate and Cerberus runs for the bone. His left head turns in our direction, howling his sadness that we are leaving.
I need to come back and play chase with him again.
Barks and yips get quieter as they run to get the bone.
When we get to the gate, I’m breathing heavily, but we all grin.
We got passed Cerberus but this isn’t the end. It’s only the beginning.
“You all ready to officially visit the underworld?” Jayden asks, his hand on the gate.
I nod. We have to do this. How bad can the underworld be? Famous last words.

“Hades?” I ask as we step through the gates of the underworld.
