Adrian’s words make me grin until I remember what will happen if we fail.

The Titans will escape and we will all be in trouble.

“You would doom our mission because you don’t want to feel pain? Do you have any idea how much pain the entire world will feel if the Titans are allowed to be free?” I ask and move back to the couch, flopping down next to Jayden.

I’m so tired. Why do we have to argue with every immortal or demigod about going on this quest? It’s fucking exhausting.

“What can I say? I was selfless once upon a time and look where that got me?” Orpheus shrugs and I nearly scream in frustration.

Raven stomps in front of him. “You’re going to let everyone and everything in the world be destroyed because of pain?”

This is fucking ridiculous and getting us absolutely nowhere. “I’m done with this. We are going to the underworld and if I have to use my magic on you to make that happen, I will.”

I jump up from the couch and point my finger in Orpheus’ stupid face. My other hand tightens on my whip.

I will fry this guy if he doesn’t let us pass. It won’t kill him. He’s unable to go to the underworld.

“Fine,” Orpheus says, throwing his hands up in surrender. “I won’t stop you from going to the underworld.”

Jayden pulls me back, wrapping a strong arm around my waist, and I deflate.

Orpheus is one of his good friends so I can understand why he doesn’t want me to hurt him, but the stupid immortal has wasted so much of our time, even after we helped him close the gate and get rid of the demons.

“Thank you, friend,” Jayden says softly. “We are short on time.”

Jayden holds out a hand and Orpheus shakes it with a grim nod.

“I hope I don’t regret this, kid.” Orpheus claps him on the shoulder.

“What’s there to regret? She’s his pride and joy on earth and has already found his item of power. He can’t punish you for letting her go to help the others unless he wants to start an anarchy among the gods,” Jayden says with a chuckle.

“You don’t know the gods very well, kid.” Orpheus shakes his head, taking a step back.

“We’ve heard all the stories about how vindictive they can be, but I don’t think my father will this time. The Titans escaping the underworld is a real threat to him.” I cross my arms over my chest and raise a brow at him.

“Fine,” Orpheus growls. “But if Zeus smites me for this, we will have problems.”

Raven chuckles. “We have no control over what the king of the gods does, but we think he will understand this time. This is what demigods do.”

Orpheus runs a hand through his hair, storms around his desk, and plops in the chair. “This is dangerous. You know the risks and have prepared for them, right?”

“Of course,” Jayden says, shaking his head.

Does he really think we are stupid? Let’s just rush into the underworld unprepared.

Raven scowls at the asshole. “We aren’t stupid.”

“That’s debatable. You know my story, right?” he asks.

“We do, but this is different. We aren’t sneaking in so we can steal a soul from the god of the underworld.” I tap my foot irritably. We need to go.

Sitting here with Orpheus is wasting our time. I need to go. Humans are being attacked by monsters they can’t even see. It’s only going to get worse until we get the helm back to Hades.

“Fair point.” Orpheus sighs.

“Can we fucking go now? We answered your questions and we are going to do our best to block the gate from the other side. What more do you want from us?” I move to the door of the office.

“Do you have coins for the ferryman?” Orpheus asks.
