“The fucking harpies are vicious if you aren’t the son of Hades,” she complains, sticking her tongue out at Jayden.

“Yes. Raven, they tried to attack me too.” I smile indulgently and shake my head. “Go, clean up and get your clothes.”

Adrian grabs Raven’s arm and ushers her through the doors before she can complain more. As soon as they leave, Jayden and I bust out laughing.

“What the hell did they do to them?” Jayden asks, striding to the door and holding it open for me.

“I don’t know, but Raven is going to be super pissed when she sees her hair.” I follow Jayden out, confused when he heads away from the school. “Um, where are we going?”

“I figured we could put our stuff in my car so we don’t have to carry it around while we go tell Rebecca that we are leaving.” He shrugs and keeps moving.

Jayden has all our bags. What is going on with him? Is this a complete act since I said I wanted to be friends? Where did the broody asshole go that is hot and cold?

“Whoa, they fixed it already?” I ask, staring at the pristine vehicle. Just a week ago it was littered with holes from the Stymphalian birds.

“The Hephaestus kids work fast and do amazing work.” Jayden nods, fishing the keys out of his pocket and opening the trunk.

I wander around the car. It doesn’t look like there was ever a problem with the car at all. “They do amazing work. I can’t even tell the birds shredded the roof at all.”

I run my hand over the metal. It warms the skin of my palm.

“I know, I was shocked as well. I have never seen their auto body skills, just the occasional shiny new weapon they make in the forge,” Jayden agrees, slamming the trunk shut and patting it. “It will make it easier to blend when we get to LA.”

“I hope they hurry.” I lean back against the car and stare up at the cloudy sky.

It’s been raining off and on. I didn’t think it rained this much in California. I wonder if it has something to do with the gods weakening. Could we be in for more crazy weather before this is all over?

“They are probably close to being ready. Let’s head back and see if they are good to go.” Jayden turns and strolls back the way we came, and I jog to catch up, falling in step beside him.

I hope this slight change in him isn’t just a fluke. I could probably even eventually grow to like the guy walking next to me.

We have had so many issues over the months, I think we’ve barely even had a civil conversation.

There will be plenty of time for that during the trip to the underworld. I will say this about Jayden—we have each other’s backs when it counts the most.

We are going to need to need to back each other up before all is said and done.

“Are you guys ready?” I ask as Adrian and Raven jog over to us.

Their clothes are changed and a bandage sticks out from the bottom of the sleeve of Raven’s T-shirt.

“We are good. We should probably leave before it starts raining again.” Raven glances up at the sky warily.

Adrian grimaces. “I don’t think we are going to make it.”

“C’mon, we need to find Rebecca.” I jog to the admin building.

It’s lunchtime so everyone is heading in the opposite direction, making it more difficult to get to the admin building.

Jayden holds the door open for me when we get there. Raven lifts a brow at me once we are inside and I shrug. He’s being strange and I’m not about to complain about the change.

We race down the halls until we get to Rebecca’s office and knock on the door.

“Where is she?” I ask with a huff. “She’s never here when we need her.”

“What do you need the headmistress for?” a gruff voice says from behind us, and I freeze.
