Raven lifts her head off my desk, blinking bleary eyes at me. “I think you are right. I’m so tired.”
“We still have classes in the morning,” I say, but Adrian and Jayden are still bent over the maps and flipping through the ancient book.
They are obsessed, but I need sleep, and they can’t take the map and the book out of here. I won’t allow it.
“Fine, you guys be dead on your feet for classes, but I’m going to sleep.” I turn off the overhead light, but the desk lamp is still on and the guys act like they don’t even notice the light is off.
“Good night,” Raven says as she walks out the door, and I lie back on the bed.
“Can you guys put the map and the book back in the closet when you’re done?” I ask and they grunt a response.
I grab the books and papers off the end of the bed and set them in a neat pile on the floor by the foot of my bed and crawl in so I can sleep, finally.
It takes way too long to get to sleep as the guys continue whispering at the desk. Every sound is too loud to my ears. Grabbing my new pillow, I cover my head, blocking it out.
I’m so used to being alone that the guys being here is unnerving. Why can’t they just stop and go to sleep? I know it’s super interesting, but shit. I need sleep.
Finally, sleep wins out and I’m plunged into the same blackness from last night.
“Help us…” the disembodied voice whispers into the void.
“Where are you? How do I help you?” I ask, turning, and a pinprick of light shines in the distance.
Should I follow it? It seems kind of cliché to follow the light but what is there to lose? This is just a dream, right?
I float toward the light. I can’t stop my body from moving and I panic slightly at the thought of being controlled this way.
What is going on? This is definitely not like the other dream. I can’t feel my body at all. Did I mention I’m fucking floating?
“Hypnos, are you sure you got her?” a voice says in the darkness and it is almost familiar but I can’t place it.
“Yes, my lord. She will be with us momentarily,” another man in the darkness replies.
Who are they talking about? Do they mean me? Is this Hypnos person controlling me?
I scowl as I reach the light and a huge ornate room opens up in front of me. Tall onyx Greek columns line the walls all the way to the arched ceiling and a large dais sits in the center with a large throne in the middle.
Are those fucking skulls? I shiver as my feet touch the ground and I can finally feel my body again. A man with white-blond hair and bright-green eyes sits on the throne of skulls and I do a double take.
Is that Jayden? No, it can’t be. My eyes widen as it hits me. Hades. I’m in the fucking underworld.
“Why am I here?” I ask the men who are still whispering between themselves.
“I thought that was obvious, Bethany.” Hades lifts a brow much the same way his son does.
“You need my help, but why not just ask Jayden? He’s your son, right?” I cross my arms, rubbing the chill in them.
I would have put a sweater on before bed had I known I would be taking a trip.
This is the damn underworld; isn’t it supposed to be hot?
Hades grimaces at my question. “I tried to contact Jayden but there’s something blocking me.”
“Fair enough. I’m guessing you need my help to find something that’s been lost?”
Hades waves a hand, and a chair appears behind me. A soft blanket lands on my shoulders and I nod my thanks.
“My helm was stolen, and it is weakening me.” His expression is bleak.
